The reason I say it might be coming to steam is Clannad is getting an overall as well, but thats much more complete than this, Clannad is getting an HD version this is just getting a slight revamp, but with Clannad we know its coming to steam for sure so that should mean we are getting official translations of both and we will get more cg's and good art of Tomoyo for the Clannad HD

It was a parallel universe of sorts, one that was slightly in the future but not at the same time.
Tomoya himself was the robot, the child they were with was/is ushio. Ushio in that universe was well aware of what would happen in regular world and was trying to save Tomoya. She understood how to use key magic.
This is a pull shit stretch but sort of what I believe. The robot for sure though is Tomoya and the girl they meet we know is Ushio
