It was one of the first idol anime, so the way hadn't been paved yet. The infrequent performances were a strike against it, which idolm@ster remedied the next year with one song per episode.

People claim it's the best anime ever made. I think it's the most overrated series that ever existed.
People claim it created the most memorables moments of the whole industry, and everything I see from it are some fan service scenes or crappy mecha battles.
We all know people still talk about it nowadays thanks to its final... If it had a normal final, it wouldn't have been such a famous anime.
The characters' personality are quite simple, the protagonist is the most cry baby that ever existed, and the only reason why teenagers can pilot those alien mechas is because japanese autistics likes young waifus. That medium shit is just a vague excuse.
