This scene reminded me of when a parent wants to bring a message to a teacher, but doesn't trust their child to do so, so they pin the message to the kid's clothes or tie it around them so it doesn't get lost.
They honestly should have just given him the weapon, she gives it like 5 seconds after that in the manga they just spread it out between two episodes to make the fight longer

I've been trying to peg down what's so wrong with this show for two episodes. It's not the writing, even though it's bad. it's not the animation, even though it's mediocre. It's not the acting, even though it's just alright.
It's the sound design, mixing, and music. That's what's so weird about this anime. The sound design makes no sense. Everything sounds like garbage and none of the sounds fit the visuals. The footstep sounds aren't even synched with the feet WHEN IT CUTS TO A SHOT OF JUST THE FEET WALKING,...

You can even hear it in the OP. The syllable breaks and even lyrics in the song make no musical sense and the mixing is dreadful. The vocals are muffled and flat and sit behind the instrumental instead of in front.
