You see your first problem is liking the rebuilds.
But in all seriousness, the only idea I've seen tossed about that I think could be cool for this was that 2.22 was like an eva fanboy power trip and then 3.33 was taking all of that away leaving shinji and by proxy the audience lost and confused. Shinji is often used as a foil for the audience in Eva.

So in Resurrection F they basically imply Vegeta became a super saiyan God somewhere between battle of the gods and resurrection f. The only problem is that in the most recent episode of DBS Frieza has arrived on earth. How can Vegeta reach the level of super saiyan God super saiyan without becoming a God first?
