My answer is pic related. I can't think of any other anime that has made me cry laughing, cry actual tears, and feel a profound sense of connection to the characters (inb4 faggot).

I found the adaptation did a poor job with Kaoru and made him seem like a terrible bitch. The scenes from the manga with Sen that were omitted made you understand his tantrum better.
