I used to a big fan. I got the first season for my 17th birthday, and it was one of the shows that turned me into an anime fan. I miss lengthy series like this that were more leisurely and character-based.

I found a batch with both in chronological order and it felt like a solid watch. Then I watched the movie.
Are you a completist, or would you rather have a fun experience?
The 2006 version had episode numbers mixed up for a very good reason -- it gave the story a much more satisfying arc. The 2009 version undid all this, and threw in a lot of detail that pretty much made me despise Haruhi and lose all interest in her as a character. Then too, I'm still disappointed about what a waste the "Endless Eight" episodes were in that 2009 version.
In general, unless I'm talking to a masochist, I advise sticking with the 13 episodes from 2006, and then the movie.

The only reason 80's and 90's anime were better was Japan actually having money. When the recession hit the country everything went to shit.80's and 90's anime were better. Even if the shit-to-good ratio didn't change, the few good were very damn good, compared by today's good.

Yes, I messed up bad. I was basically Hishiro, but also depressed and thought I was going to kill myself so I didn't bother trying to give myself a life. Now I want to live but have no idea where to start since I never gave myself the opportunity to emotionally mature or experience anything past the age of 14. I'm basically a high school kid in an adult's body, expected to do adult things. It's like Ryo told Arata when he said he wouldn't be able to progress as an adult if he can't even overcome hurdles high school kids do. I'm not completely fucked, but I am definitely behind my peers, so I'd love to take that pill.
