I didn't even watch Steins;Gate until 2015.
I waited for S3 of Shana for years, dating back to days when I could image dump the shana folder without recaptchas. And I still haven't started it.

i think people are being too harsh on phantom world. imo kyoani has always been a studio focusing on quirky characters rather than a profound story...
and that is exactly what we get here. as with past shows, the setting is only a means to provide the characters with opportunities to act out their roles. so in-depth analysis of the world obviously won't happen. and the fanservice is definitely a step-up compared to past kyoani projects; evident when looking at mai's proportions. pared with the high production values this makes for rather nice ecchi despite lacking all too much skin exposure. and some ideas like the singing flamethrower girl were even somewhat funny.
so if you take the show as it was meant to be seen, namely a silly, umcomplicated story, you might even have fun watching it. everything obviously my personal opinion...

Why is this held in so high regard as a tournament arc? It had a bunch of good fights, but nothing to make outstanding compared to other series. And other than that, it was nothing special. There are no surprises or reversals other than young Genkai arriving as a backup, and maybe Hiei curbstomping in seconds a guy who was hyped to hell before the fight. You only see the heroes' matches and sometimes a few glimpses of their immediate opponents (they have to do this because they weren't established from the start). To me, half the fun of tournament arcs is looking at the grid and speculating about the possible matchups. I'd say even DB does tournament arcs better, and the Chapter Black arc was much superior than this as far as YYH goes.
Flame of Recca's tournament arc was far better.
I think that in its time Yuyu Hakusho was pretty fresh and managed to set itself apart from other series but now that most of the tropes it uses or even established have been used over and over again its flaws became very apparent.

Good execution, aesthetically pleasing, Togame was cute. That's about all I've got though, since, despite somewhat liking it, I myself was puzzled by its popularity. It has too little depth and the characterization is fairytale level at best.

Galko-chan is objectively the best anime of this season, is the only one with well written characters and good character development. It's the living proof that Characters > Story.

One Piece was looking pretty good for a while, but then they invented Haki.
