I tried to think of it like a Director cutting and splicing scenes together. The audience doesn't know what happened to the scene or how we cut there but the director does and knew what was going to happen in the next scene.

I re-watched Evangelion recently 4 years after seeing it when I was 14 and not getting it and now, every other anime I watch feels empty and hollow by comparison. Any show ever give you that feeling /a/?

Maybe it's because I didn't watch it when it first came out and I don't have nostalgia for it, but Evangelion was just so boring. It tried to be meaningful and failed. I've already watched lot of other anime with better symbolism and psychology. The creator basically confirmed it's just pretentious garbage visual-wise. And under all the random artsy bullshit, it's pretty shallow actually. Again, maybe this is just because I've watched...
