I really like SoL and lately got into watching Aria anime. But for some reason I don't really like it, which feels funny because /a/ hypes it as the definite SoL anime. Technical aspects are bad and instead of scenery porn it really looks like early 2000's functionalist anime. The animal helpers and most of the side-characters (especially male) are really obnoxious. Strange fever dreams and time-travel subplots feel really out of place, and even if they shed light to the backstory, there's no reason why the exposition couldn't be something else than literal time-travel. The background music is played by probably one foreign man with a cheap guitar.
Why do you like Aria so much even if world is full of better SoL experiences?

The TV series' animation really wasn't anything special, it just had a great art style and sense of direction. Also, some episodes, particularly in the latter half, had barely any animation at all. The ending was pretty good honestly, the story was a mess, but the ending made the best out of it and was surprisingly satisfying.
