I thought it was very well received? Now I hear a lot of people here bash it.
It's overrated everywhere except /a/, and underrated on here. 2011fags confuse art style with animation quality and writing quality with adaption quality, and probably just like it because it's newer. It's way better than you can usually hope for in a battle shounen adaption, especially such a long series, but it's uninspired in comparison to 99 and screwed up Kite's intro and some other things. But a few fuck ups and mediocre direction/animation doesn't really warrant the sort of vitriolic hatred 99fags have of it either in my opinion, the manga is better than both either way.

Seriously, it's been a while since I was invested in a Typemoon character. Arcueid has such a great personality that she easily beats every other Typemoon character that I've seen so far.
Is this show Anime of the Decade thus far? Just finished it, and literally wept with happiness at the tag announcing a second season. A period piece with a tragic storyline, starring fully-realized adult characters, and featuring meaningful direction and generational themes -- I'm amazed that a show like this could be renewed at what will certainly be a financial loss for Deen.
Seriously, what other contenders for best anime of the 2010s are there? Mushishi Zoku Shou probably comes the closest. Shin Sekai Yori is definitely a candidate, but I think it lacks the human element that elevates the greatest fiction. Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong are both great, but Yuasa's tendency to hold the viewer at arm's length hurts their case. Series like Madoka or Steins;Gate are considered modern classics, but they strike me as pop cultural landmarks more than artistic ones.
Rakugo just seems like the clear frontrunner thus far. Has there been any news about when the second season will premiere? I can't fucking wait.
