I think they're a good blend of modeling and texturing challenges, while having an unparalleled variety of different designs and references readily available.
That and vehicles, plus you see them in videogames all the time. Not a bad way to learn how to model honestly.

I've modeled 5 or 6 weapons over the last months.
I am getting tired of it, but i want to make an action rich animation with explosions and stuff. Wouldn't make much sense without boomsticks.
So yeah, modeling weapons was not my aim, but now i got to do what needs to be done.
