I checked and the only Kiznaiver staff member who worked on Tokyo Ghoul is the animation director for episode 4 (not even the episode that webm is taken from). So really no idea where you're getting that from.

Also trying to judge anime as similar by studio is dumb, you have to look at the staff. If a studio produces aesthetically similar anime it's because the same core group of animators and directors worked on them, not because they share a brand name. It's why studios occasionally put out shows that look and feel nothing like the rest of their stuff, because those projects weren't worked on by the core group.

That's where Kiznaiver comes in. It may be a Trigger original anime, but Imaishi and the rest of the Gainax old guard had nothing to do with it. Script was outsourced, it's the series' director's debut production, and most of the storyboarders and key staff are relatively new to the industry.

I only saw like the first few episodes of Tokyo Ghoul before I switched to just reading the manga instead, and it was a while back. So maybe I'm just visualizing the style in my head wrong.

Since Wikipedia said it was Trigger, though, now I'm realizing that that's why I made the mistake: I've been watching a bunch of other Trigger anime recently, and so the style must have been corrupting my memories of other anime I've watched.
