The class you select when making your Avatar represents the alt class you can go into once you get a Heart Seal.

I'm at mission 16 in Awakening and still haven't found any support I like for my Avatar, she's female.
What's a good fit? She's Dark Flier right now because I want galeforce, but hit 20 as Tactician, then as Mercenary, then 10 as Pegasus Knight. She's broken enough that I just pair her up with anyone for the xp boost then chuck her at a flank every battle because nothing can touch her, but I fear it won't last and that she will need a dedicated S support.

Arden is just Lex without Elite. Their offenses will be about the same with either one as their father, i.e., in desperate need of magic rings and they'll be pretty bad by chapter 10, but now they only level half as fast. They don't need swords either, they need Thoron/Elwind.
That said, it's a meme skill combo in the first place and you should only be doing it for fun, not that it really matters because your fixed units will always carry you anyway.
