The Warriors of Light are of the same vein. They're THE characters for FFI. He is blatantly better, so even a shit banner will make people spend Mythril if theres 5 shit relics on it but ONE of Onion Knights, because everyone will be using him and everyone will want his super bullshit SBs (even moreso because they're ALREADY using him, eh?). So when beforehand you could draw on a banner and get a good item for someone that you perhaps didn't intend or expect you'd just use it and move on... NOW there's two tiers of desirability for gear: Onion Knight and everyone else. I suspect his special fragments and stuff will also be monetized in some fashion.

There's no such thing as a shit banner in JP anymore, anon. And the thing that makes him good are fragments, which are completely separate from gems and such and will likely stay that way despite your pessimism.

Throwing weapons are pretty rare even though a ranged option is nice and 4* Ninja is not useful for Refia. If you spend fragments on that you've got problems.
I'd take the character that can use the most common weapon in the game though rather than being limited to Fist, Thrown, and lolHammer weapons, even if she didn't have Support.

Black mages draw aether from the earth itself whereas thaumaturges only use their own power to cast spells.

White magic is a similar deal, though conjurers actually do draw upon the aether in their surroundings. The lore is a bit fuzzy since apparently there have been some retcons with ARR but I'm guessing the reason conjury is ok is because the conjurer's guild guildmaster is a padjal so the magic he teaches is something the elementals are cool with and don't draw upon enough aether to be a danger to the earth whereas the more powerful spells are reserved for white mages who will use those spells responsibly.

Summoners use their own aether and residual aether from primals for their magic rather than tapping into the earth's life force.

Scholars were also wiped out in the war of the magi and the survivors were all turned into tonberries.

Astrologians draw their power from the stars, which is well outside the elementals' jurisdiction.

White magic is the counterweight to black magic. The whole point was that black magic is destructive power while white magic is the opposite of that. White mages can literally heal any amount of damage with a single spell whereas last I checked, a black mage can't kill anything outside of random critters out in the world with a single spell.
