Yes. The game forces you to get three characters before the Airship so if you want you can prove how hardcore you are by trying to take on Kefka's Tower with three solo teams of Celes, Edgar, and Setzer. And four is the most you can get before the Airship so they didn't have to deal with switching team members. It was pretty clever game design. Most people don't realize Sabin is optional because if you even take one step inside of Tzen you're locked into getting him. You have to skip the town entirely to miss him.

I've kind of been wanting to give it another try. When I first got it I barely played more than an hour or two, the tutorial missions at the start literally put me to sleep. It's moderately enjoyable and lets and easy game have a little challenge. Like you aren't super grinding or anything either, you can finish most solo challenges around 30ish
so now that I have a berserker is there any way to make their actions trigger faster? I charge a whole bar before they attack and sometimes attack before they act.

Fun fact about Chemist. There was a glitch in older versions of the game (fixed in the GBA version) where by mixing two specific items together, you would produce an item that inflicted Berserk on a target and would bypass normal Berserk immunity.
If you used this on the first form of the final boss and then defeated him, he would fail to transform into his second form and you won the game instantly without ever fighting the second form.

Can someone enlighten me on 4JF? I signed up just for shits and I still kind of want to try it but the more anons that post about it the less inclined I am to even try. There just seems to be so much random bullshit that "ruins" the run in different ways.

FFV is a piss easy game anyway but difficulty was never what made it a fun. The game is fun even if you just play through it regularly and imposing any kind of restrictions on yourself is going to make it harder so lack of difficulty can't be what's making the run less fun.
I personally don't really like the whole four jobs fiesta thing either for various reasons but if you do decide to participate and happen to get an easy run, why not impose your own additional restrictions on it to make it more fun for you?
On a sidenote, all this V talk is making me want to finish my run from last year where /ffg/ assigned one class from each crystal to every character. It's been anything but difficult so far but I still enjoyed doing that because it forced me to play with new combinations which has led to some interesting situations.

You actually don't have to look up the table of instant-wins - Chemists already have a neat option in Drink.
And you can beat the game with pretty much any given team - deal with the RNG on 4 Berserkers might not be your idea of fun, but Neo Exdeath can fall just the same.
The biggest actual mark towards the "guaranteed" jobs is that they can handle Omega and Shinryuu without much hassle.

Except Shout is significantly stronger and bosses still generally have more resistance than defense. 30% magic boosts are fucking everywhere. Krile's SSB isn't stackable and if you have any other non-stackable magic boost (which is most of them), Divine Guardian is a superior option.
Still, the point stands that you don't need either of those for yourself since you can RW those and people still beat some of the most difficult fights in the game with little synergy and few SBs

Forget the Faris burst, it shows up again in the Gilgamesh event right after double BSBfest along with other crazy shit like Krile's Sheep Song.
Dissidia isn't even very good.
I'd possibly even pass on the second Tactics event, opportunities for Shout seem to be plentiful in the future.
Another event to pay attention to is the recent FFII event. Firion's BSB is probably the best offensive SB in the game right now, and there are other good things like Leon's BSB, and Minwu and Gordon's SSBs which are both great. Shame that Josef's great medica is in the second banner, though.
