Every mage has one or two major problems that prevents them from being great.
Leo: Slow, not enough defense to make up for it, somewhat blind
Odin: Slow, doesn't have enough defense to make up for it, might actually be better as a physical unit due to his poor mag
Elise/Nyx: Blind glass cannons
Orochi: Really slow and made of glass, possibly the worst stat combination for any unit to have
Sakura: Decent stats all around but hard to train due to being a 5 mov healer that competes with your servant.
Hayato: Similar to above (with a bit less skill) but even harder to train
Revelations Hayato is probably the overall best mage in the game due to having good bases, decent mag, enough def and HP to take at least one hit and enough speed to double/not get doubled. Even then he's only decent at best
