There's always challenges available, but it's not necessary. Obviously your low level guys are going to have trouble but it's not impossible to get them caught up in the story if you want, just let them pick off weakened enemies for exp. The Invasion should be a good opportunity for that. And you don't have to use everyone; e.g if Subaki just isn't working out (he usually doesn't) you can replace him with Hinoka.

Actually, since you mention it, should I just skip Beruka going into Berserker entirely and have her spend that time in GK instead? Berserker seems like it might hit her defense a bit too hard and GK lets me get something that's nearly as good as Axefaire without hitting defense. I am actually curious now what Japan thinks of the yandere thing. I see people here claim it as a pandering thing all of the time, yet I almost never see anyone say it in a positive tone. It's almost always listed as something negative, sometimes so bad that it makes a character irredeemable.
I'd say in a blanket term that her main flaw is how irrational she is in regards to people close to her. Part of the reason she attacks you in Ch 23 is because of Elise, and instead of just listening to you she assumes you're trying to take Elise away. Harold and Effie were also responsible for this.
