I think adding the Agape ring to DS3 was a mistake.
They should have left soul memory alone as ti was, and just made it so the Arena's had SL matchmaking.
That way the dedicated PvPers could still have their balanced PvP, and the PvEers could completely ignore all notions of a meta and just play the game however they wanted while still having active co-op.

Of course, the question then becomes - is that proof Vendrick looted shit from Lordran, or is it there because Drangleic *is* Lordran (DaS3 lore aside). Nah, I loved how they got the feeling of the fight right.
The way he moves gwyndolin around the room guiding the blade like a beacon, spewing the soul masses into the air, the sporadic and snake like movements where he curls around himself and hangs in the air for a second.
I loved the fight, it wasn't the hardest or even the most mechanically complex, but it definitely left a huge memorable impression.

Except Aldrich isn't even good. The whole thing is hard only because you have to burn your entire stamina bar to get to him when he ports/avoid his hail of arrows (making him immune to his own arrows was a massive missed opportunity). Most extended weapon arts can't even really hit him as, by the time you're in a position to use them efficiently, he's already gone. It's really easy to see how Aldrich could have been good, but laziness and shortcuts spoiled what would have otherwise been a fantastic fight.

all SM encourages is playing perfectly aka never dying twice and losing souls, and spending souls on shit like stats and weapon upgrades that you will only ever use. like if you're an archer build for example and spend 500k souls on arrows then you'll be matched up with someone who's spent the same 500k on fucking stats or weapon upgrades. so it actually encourages min maxing harder than anything

Im not that anon but one of the main reasons this game became popular was because of the stories of a solo player being invaded by a black phantom who crushed his ass, and the ones who managed to beat their invader.

I just had 2 of them invade me doing the same thing, except I popped a seed and just ran past everything. One of them died by the 2 NPCs after the giants while the other got kicked after I entered the boss fog.

Pro tip, never be out of melee range for the aldrich fight.
It's a fight of range based movesets.
Up close he will only use melee, so when he disappears into the ground, make sure you go back to the centre to get ready for his next appearance.
I thought the fight was mechanically very unique feeling, and not in a negative way, it required the player to adapt to a moveset that wasn't in line with normal expectations, it's kind of like the dancer's anti gravity feeling

Why? Most of his moveset can be dodged by just staying under him, his zero wind-up charge attack is the single most bullshit thing in the entire game, and the way he clips through the environment and charges randomly around the room looks goofy and makes the fight very annoying.

I liked SM, it rewarded you playing good. It was actually punishing to lose souls other than "welp guess I have to farm some more".
It would have been great with two simple changes
a) the ranges early on are bigger, there's really way too many in such a small span
b) it's completely removed in NG+, where it's reliant on SL. It's a seperate matchmaking anyway and there's no twinks in NG+
