It's a proven fact that most threads made before 750 have anime OPs, and most threads made after 750 have gamedev/agdg related OPs.

Strange isn't it? It's as if the anime posters have to make a thread early so they can force their memes before a normal thread can be made.

Fraps works, but it'll leave borders in your footage so you'll have to edit it.
Hypercam works, but it's choppy as fuck.
I think other programs don't have a "record this area" feature like hypercam does, even if they do unity's player is not very optimal. You'll have the cursor flashing in the footage half the time as well.
Better to just build it.

did you change this at all from demo day? I played that and replayed it just now.
I wondered what it would play like if you bounce-able when small instead of big, and you actually float when big.
So at your smallest you would be a super ball (highly maneuverable on ground), at your biggest you would be a helium balloon (only way to get altitude).

Are you married to the whole inflating thing Dobson? You normally just toggle between big and small, why not have just different "forms"? like Glover or Within a deep forest.

The biggest problem you have right now is the lack of control you give the player, which isn't inherently bad. That's the only reason Octodad is fun, and half of the fun in Katamari is trying to control your katamari, but even then you can jump and boost and stuff.
>>
>>128653127
I'll always have gamedev/animating as a hobby but to be able to live off of it is obviously preferable
>>
>>128654401
>did you change this at all from demo day? I played that and replayed it just now.
I did a few changes aesthetically but not much in terms of gameplay. Just a bit of variable changing.
> You normally just toggle between big and small, why not have just different "forms"? like Glover or Within a deep forest.
I've thought about something like this, like a way to switch between Ball and Crawl modes. Crawl would be slower but with movement that's a lot more easier to control and lets you jump around and climb walls maybe?
Going to do a bit more research and try those games out, thanks for the feedback!

I don't know how I feel about asset stores. I'm looking at these environment packs that people are using to make actual commercial games and thinking the future doesn't look too good if everyone is just reusing the same assets from a store. Back in the day, devs made entire environments and levels themselves, but these days many simply download their entire levels from environment assets on the store because they're allowed to be used in full release games. How long until nearly every game has at least a couple of the exact same boss, creatures, or environments as other games? It feels so plug and play to me, and it worries me for the future of mostly indie games as a whole.
>>
>>128655702
I'm studying modular asset creation. In some people's hands the same assets can look entirely different. That being said i will put my shit up on the asset store for sure, i wanna profit off of nodevs who think money can buy a good game.

Yes, but how long until every haunted house you go into is the same one. Every time you find ruins they look oddly familiar. The trees and outside environments appear to be from the exact same game. Hey wait, I've seen this boss in another game, and these weapons I'm using, and this inventory system. Oh wow, this is my room? It was my room in the last game I played too.

you are right, i agree but your assumption about the future is wrong

in the future there would be mega asset packs that contain over 200 3D objects just like kenny asset pack and alikes, then you could mix it all up to compose your own game

Speaking seriously about assets for a second. I can download a fps controller, animated arms and gun models, and a dungeon/outdoor level that can randomly generate different looking environment for a couple of bucks, then use it all with blueprints to finish whatever I don't understand with the code. Then just add my own flair to the game like my own models, like edit the gun model a little and change a few things. Most FPS are the same anyway, so this should be fine right? The assets are proven, so I can probably even make money on a service like Steam.

The little consistent oddity of a game needs to be there to feel not genetic. Of course you'd need to tweak things with some personalized shader or whatever to make it look not shit.

It follows a path of waypoints around the map and I can set the rotation speed so it takes turns in a smoother way. I didn't texture it and I think I made the skeleton/mesh too poorly to have it sit like a bird and fold its wings like birds do, but it flies ok. You'll have to catch it mid-air to find either a hint towards a candy cane or a straight up candy cane (permanent speed boost).

>>
>>128659284
Because FPS games need level design cohesive with the mechanics and enemies, and just level design period which randomly generated environments won't do.
Any good FPS has something that makes it different, and I doubt an FPS controller asset has shooting of a high enough quality to make that alone be it's gimmick.
>>
>>128659030
Sure, you can make a game that way.
You can also finish a game a day if you remake tetris or pong, but would you want to do either?
Using asset store stuff is great if you can't do something yourself, or if you need it as an example to learn, but if that's the only thing you use you won't be making a new game, just a mishmash of things that have nothing to do with each other.

well I dont know why your AI is capable of fucking up the physics, why is it so tightly coupled? I mean, you should have the physics world where only certain things are possible and then the AI has access to vehicle controls it can use to move the vehicles around according to the physics of the world.

(pic from yesterday)

It is shamefully bare at the moment, but I've promised myself to do even if it's just a bit every day and post/save an image or gif of progress. Let's see where this takes me.

I've started roguelikes too many times and abandoned them many times as well. In GM, Unity, SFML/SDL and C++, Löve, XNA, Javascript, ncurses... It doesn't matter.. It's always a matter of letting a day slip by and I lose all hope.

I expect the incentive of showing progress to a bunch of strangers on the internet who don't give a shit to be a huge boost in productivity.

and don't update it every frame

That's pretty neat. I didn't even know reflection probes were a thing. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I also need a player model now as seeing nothing of yourself in a reflection is pretty lame.

you should do "if (variable == true) {ahfdh}"

When setting a variable you use one =
When comparing a variable you use two ==
>>
>>128669709
If you're using a single equals-sign, you're testing whether variable successfully assigns to true instead of evaluating whether variable is equal to true, which would require a double equals-sign.
>>
>>128669709
Maybe you should start by naming your variable something other than variable.
It might help more than you expect it to.

you have to do "variable = false"
