The most annoying thing about Demoknight is that it punishes you for mistakes your teammates are making. When there's twelve players on each team, there's bound to be at least one player who's not very good at the game, and those players just give Demoknights free heads to farm which gives them a huuuge advantage over everyone else.
So here's some ideas:
-Rework the shield charge to grant minicrits, not regular crits. This way if you want to equip a grenade launcher it's significantly harder to get heads, you have to know what targets are weakened enough to collect a head instead of "lol there's a spy thanks for the +15 hp noob"
-Limit the amount of charges you can use. One at the start of your life, and you get one charge for every melee kill you get. If you're all out of charges, you can head back to resupply for one, just like the Caber or Razorback. Infinite charges are extremely difficult to play against; you can't stay out of the fuckhuge melee range of a Demoknight and damage him at the same time, he'll just stall you out until he gets a charge and proceed to either charge away or kill you instead. This change would severely punish a Demoknight who miscalculates his charge and allow for knockback from explosives and airblast to be a more reliable counter.
-Remove all damage resistances from the shields. Scout's speed, 295 HP and, what is it, 40% explosive resistance with the Targe? You basically need a critical hit to take out a Demoknight if you're playing Soldier or Demoman. Even the 10% resistance on the Tide Turner makes the Demoknight more tanky than he deserves to be. Give all shields a bullet vulnerability so that Scouts, Heavies, Snipers, and Soldiers who opt to carry a Shotgun can all properly challenge Demoknights.
In addition to any of these, remove random melee crits when a shield is equipped. I think this speaks for itself.

You don't even have to get kills. Assists work too, plus there's usually some easier additional objective to get there faster like collect pumpkins dropped by other players. Plus there's the soul gargoyles that add 10 souls to you contract. It's super easy.

As for stickies remember that aribursting takes a while and doesn't do the damage in one hit.
You can learn to sync stickies by firing one up high and one more horizontal, if you do it right you can detonate them together on the same target.
get creative with sticky traps and don't detonate them right away, if you see someone buffed coming in wait for the medic and blow him up instead.
