Had the complete opposite experience. I could probably count the number of failed connections in DS2 on one hand. The only time I had a reliable set of connections in DS1 is when actually trying to target friends who could verify their NAT was open, and even then, it could fail more times than not.
This doesn't even go on to address the P2P nature of networking in DS1 mitigating the potential pool of invasions or summons.

I'm not sure ruining the point of level progression is a nice thing. At first it seems nice but a week from now when he gets on to level up further and notices it costs 270,000 souls per level thanks to your kind deed he's bounds to loose intrest very quickly when he finds himself 1 shoting bosses he could simply not beat despite all previous efforts.......only to realise they only drop 20,000 souls.
It's like hacking in any game, it's fun for a while but it gets boring due to lack of a challenge and lack of incentive to level up / get new gear.
