The design of it is as simple as possible and I doubt much thought was put into it outside of "We want people to play together"

Also the power gap can get nausieating especially if you can't cap anything good
Candies kind of suck but it does make those rare pokemon even more special and local to certain players. It's kind of cool being the grass guy and meeting the rock guy or something.

The power gap seems like the worst part. Everything feels pointless because somehow every local gym has a 1000cp leader and I'm stuck with a 600cp pidgeot that I grinded for days to get.
