I distinctly recall being on a message forum in 1999 arguing about the design merits of Hoothoot and Bellosom.
We're nearly 30 years and 800 goddamn creatures deep in this thing now, everyone on here should have gone through at least two or three other gens before now, it really shouldn't come as any surprise that the new mons come as a little bit of a shock, and it REALLY shouldn't come as a surprise that they don't conform rigidly to the design ideals of the first 150 mons. I don't know why people think they can even bring that up anymore.
They don't look like the originals.

The biggest crime game freak commits with each new Pokémon game is never changing the starting formula EVER. The 3 starter types are fine. But then you always get some sort of normal rodent with 1 evolution. A normal bird. Some sort of bug Pokémon with 3 evolutions. Etc.
I think this is the BIGGEST problem with Pokémon, and why i think Black/ White 2 was tip top.

It might just be how they draw them now, rather than the design itself. People like to 'hurr duurrrr a seal a magnet a pokeball a duck' but I can't put my finger on why gen 1 and 2 designs look cool, but in gen 4 they got really simple adventure time style rounded.

We had a rating thread on /vp/ yesterday with over 200 responses. An autist made this chart showing the average and some other stats. This is the average /vp/ taste.
Some notes:
* Coolbug clearly is the most favorite, while Gayfish is the least favorite (poor replacement for Sadfish).
* Punpun-bug is only SLIGHTLY better than Owlette (technically 3.9237/5 vs 3.9153/5).
* I'm actually surprised Sonichu is second-least favorite. I would've thought his meme factor (combined with Steel-type = Coldsteel the Hedgehog) would've been a /vp/ favorite... but I guessed wrong.
* Metalfairy got the most number of 0's and 1's from everyone (5 and 35). However, it's not dead last simply because it has more 5's than the bottom 2 (10 vs 5 and 3).
* Boxbug is actually the only Pokemon with more 5's than 4's (apart from the top ranking Pokemon) (13 4's and 16 5's). I wonder why?
* Tikimon is the lowest ranked Pokemon still with the highest number of 5's among all its votes (36/32/22/21/6/1)
* Litten is the highest ranked Pokemon with most of its votes being 3's (28/36/40/10/4/0).
* The overall average ranking of the listed Gen 7 Pokemon is 3.2236/5. The user who closely predicted /vp/'s decisions, at least based on how different their average is from the overall average are these posts

I think I just don't like Pokemon anymore.
Gen 6 itself hurt my love of it a lot, and now there hasn't been a single Gen 7 Pokemon I've liked so far.
I always thought people were just being "NO FUN FAGGOTS" when they said they didn't like Pokemon anymore but I can finally see their point of view. There's literally nothing being offered in these games that makes me want to buy them.

I think Drampa looks pretty cool even though having a normal/dragon type is such a shit thing. Normal isn't a type you can just attach to anything, it should only be there if nothing else will fit the pokemon well.
