Though honestly I'm a bit worried From are stretching themselves a bit here; they're currently working on DaS 3 DLC, a new multiplat (With VR support), the first of their two Sony collaborations and they heavily implied they were working on a new installment of an old IP (So AC in all likelihood). That's an awful lot of juggling for a studio with about 250 employees.

No, ideally the Xbox One was a massive success in the living room and their walled garden is generating massive profit from media and games. This strategy simply makes business sense for them atm because the Xbox one won't see significant growth through the rest of its lifecycle which is why they announce their next version so early. Only locking people to their eco-system matters.
Neo and scorpio are a major change in the typical console cycle in that, instead of a console naturally trailing off in sales near the end of the cycle they boost sales and retain install bases rather than hitting the reset switch every 8 years which has become a huge risk. Even if Neo and scorpio aren't the "next" generation of the consoles you can expect forwards and backwards compatibility with software and accessories from here on out because keeping consumers locked to your established eco system far more important due to online distribution.
This is all possible because commodity hardware finally won out and I can see X86 and SMID/SIMT based graphics cores being the the standard for the foreseeable future.

Sony cant give their exclusives on Steam(BTW. im no snypny,) because Steam is Windows and Xbox by proxy, everything written for Win is.
They(sny) invested their money into making a new IP (successful, unsuccessful, unimportant) as an marketing strategy,
as if:"Look, guys, we have a great time on PS4, we play Bloodborne all day long, every day, for the last 4 years, we so happy!"
These games are what PS4 brand is famous for(Uncharted, Killzone, idk...), their only porpoise is to attract people to their platform, if they release it on steam, they promote Windows.
What I would like to see(purely out of fun clusterfuck to watch) is that Steam and Sony(is based on linux distro) merge and start making and distributing games only for Linux, now that would be a nice disturbance in the force.
Sony makes hardware(consoles for console crowd), steam deals with digital distribution, linux only, you can still build your own PC, install some linux distro , go to steam and it just werks.
Then, yes, Sony would release their precious exclusives on steam, because they promote themselves either way.

It must take unearthly talent to draw a rectangle and say "finished!" But all in all Sony isn't much better. The PS4 is a rectangle to, it's just slanted, (like an eraser) so it stands out among all the other lazy designs. When the PS3/360 were all originally announced, lots of cool concepts sprung up that made me excited for what we might be getting. After being thoroughly disappointed, it happened again with the PS4, and yet again 'no design' is what they basically went with. The PS4 currently is the only console that has even the least bit of design, and that's just because it slants.Fucking christ game industry, get your shit together.

Im not saying that 2 million Bloodbornes sold 2 mill ps4s,
but if they sold 100k consoles, it was a good investment, that will keep on giving in the long run.
And as far as exclusives go, there are 2 types of exclusives, hostages and wouldnt even exist in the first place.
Tomb Raider is hostage game(shame no one gives a fuck), Bloodborne is not,Halo is not(Halo2 on PC was welcomed as an third butt hole),Abe Odyssey was hostage(they rerelased it year or two ago on everywhere but it was too late, shame Oddworld franchise hit the dust(tnx to M$), Alan Wake was an hostage, Red Dead Redemtion was not hostage(it was fairly experimental game that used RAGEngine on weak consoles to dramatic effect), Gears of War hostage, Crash Bandicoot not hostage.
As long you get some game that couldnt be released because no one would publish it or invest in it because its too risky, yet it kinda falls into :"Whoa, looks , they be push them envelope!" teritory, its OK, its not perfect but its OK, but when they go to publisher, game is 90% over for all platforms, but they cash out to make it exclusive, well that is bullshit and M$ is famous for that shit.
Sny invests their money to make games that dont exist , so devs can add that extra layer of spit and polish and actually not worry if it will sell or not(usually when devs make a game they feel its gonna be good, like they are doing it for themselves, those games end up great and groundbreaking, without gameplay tester responding how he feels every 10 seconds and all that=.
Honestly, it looks like shit. At least the port design on the back is alright.
It's a shame that they're outsourcing the industrial design to India, considering that this is what's coming out of that effort.
