I never implied this. But as far as the gameplay itself is concerned it has always been part of the core.
Imagine if From Software made a Dark Souls 4 but made it a turn based RPG with random encounters.
If the world design stayed true to the Souls games. The storytelling style stayed true. The lore. And the souls, level and death mechanics etc, etc all stayed the same. It would no doubt still be a Souls game. But the game would still no doubt be a very different kind of game.

It is however pretty damn bad how the new mainline game is making such fundamental changes. The spinoffs are cool, I am not interested in most of them personally, but they're still spinoffs. That they're making their action game into their next mainline game while also remaking their old classic as yet another action game, basically says that they're done making non-action Final Fantasy.

To be fair, VII was always something that was going to happen sooner or later. It was always Square's Big Red Button, the last thing they could be 100% sure that it'd be a smashing success, so they were saving it for a rainy day.
