Yes, but I'm gonna wait to see what aftermarket looks like. EVGA or MSI most likely. I'm looking at 1080p/60 so this is probably already overkill.
>>
I still have a 560 ti but it doesn't run doom 4 well. What should I upgrade to? I play at 1440x900 so I'm thinking of a GTX 960. I have a 1080p monitor in my room so I'm also thinking of getting a GTX 970. What do you guys recommend? I have a i5 2500k.

>63% improvement

I think people are too focused on comparing the new cards to the 980ti, which they aren't meant to replace
Since the 1070 is meant to directly replace a 970 that's a hell of a performance gain holy shit
>>
I got a 980 a while ago so I see no reason to upgrade anytime soon.
>>
>>339309585

I have the same CPU, but with a GTX 970.

Runs BF4/The Witcher 3, and I imagine, Doom 4 at 1080p on ultra with 60fps pretty much 95% of the time.

Reference coolers are always loud and hot, I don't know why people seem to have forgotten this, or why Nvidia expects people to pay more for a worse experience

You think if I stick with the 1440x900 monitor I can run it with a GTX 960? Doom is the only game it doesn't run well so I'm not sure if I want to upgrade just for 1 game.
>>

>>339310375

A 960 is the most 'budget' nvidia card all around. It won't run it on Ultra at 1080p (doom 4) without dipping into the 40's.

They are pretty effective on gpus if you want to go through the hassle of fitting and mounting it

Arctic also makes aftermarket air coolers for gpus

960 would max out most games on a 1440x900 res because that res is so small, it's roughly half as taxing as 1080p. On 1080p, 960 is decent but really struggles with newer games, so the 970 (or AMD equivalent, the 290x or 390) is far better suited for that resolution.

You guys think there will be a price drop on the 970 or 980 anytime soon?
>>
>>339311168
Generally the 3rd party coolers for gpus get the job done just fine and keep them cooled even when overclocked, and even the reference coolers are ok for the most part

Cpu stock coolers are shit, and when they are overclocked they tend to put out more heat than gpus, so the aftermarket cooling for cpus is much bigger

Got a 980 way back when, so there's really no reason for me to upgrade right now... especially when half the games coming out nowadays just use pixel art shit anyway. Devs also just seem pretty focused on stylizing their games rather than going for realism or something. I honestly couldn't even name you 5 games that I've bought in the past three years that came close to taxing the card I have now.

There might be plenty of games out there that can, but it's not like I'm buying every single one.

Nobody is denying that nvidia game works is bad for games, usually, but that's not what jumping means. Also the video refences the retarded benchmark by ruskies that shows the performance drop. The thing is: no other benchmark of F4 1.3 by different sites show that. No videos I've seen show that. I didn't get similar results myself. Only they managed to get results like that that. Its a dead giveaway that everyone who references that benchmark is a retarded drone.

I'll wait for the 60 version. I have a 960 2gb and it's fine for gaming at 1080p. The only game that gives me problems is DOOM, but it seems to shit the bed with a lot of 2gb cards in certain places. Pic related. I have an i5 4440 so I don't think my cpu is the problem here. This isn't a random drop. Whenever I look at certain places my frames drop to the 30s. This isn't the only place where my frames drop this bad. No matter what settings I drop or even if I turn the resolution down I get drops in these places.

Not sure if bait but I'll still call you retarded
>>
>>339315064
It's not so much about reaction, as low persistence images, and smoothness.

60Hz monitors typically have 2-3 frame persistence, i.e, ghosting, which is visually unpleasant. Furthermore 60fps, whilst not easily distinguishable on a frame-to-frame basis, does not appear unblurred and continuous to most people. There's now a fair amount of peer reviewed literature on the subject (which I don't have to hand, posting from a mobile unfortunately - easy to find though). I certainly notice the difference in smoothness between 60 and 144 (although not between 90 and 144).

>>339316330
Not related topics. Screen tearing is a rendering call synchronisation issue, and is fairly similar to dropped frames. A fps that isn't an integer multiple or divisor of the refresh rate leads to delayed frames, not screen tearing (in most cases - long ago it would lead to screen tearing, but draw synchronisation has moved on a lot since then). That said, if you want to run at 60fps, you'd want 120hz. On the other hand, 144Hz goes into 24fps, which is good for your TV playback, and into either 72 fps or 48 fps, which should cover games if you're struggling. It does mean that 60fps isn't the golden point though.

Well the rumors about Polaris say that the Polaris 10 will be somewhere between the 390x and the 980 for less than $300 USD with the Polaris 11 being more comparable to the 380x for sub $200 so either of those would be decent choices. 4GB 960 might still be a good choice though if its price drops as a response to the new hardware 380x would also be a good choice in that situation.
