Seriously, I don't even hate linear progression. I quite liked FFX but FFXIII failed so hard at making it worth it. There's just no intrigue, the plot is needlessly convoluted and the environments feel disjointed and barren. I dropped it not much after Sazh's son subplot got resolved as it was the only thing that motivated me to keep mashing X.

Turn based is only good for boss battles. Which enables the players to actually pay attention the boss’s action/spells. Unless you're too OP due to grinding. Despite that, some bosses can easily level the playing field with some of his spells or skill. The random encounters in usual turn based system is repetitive as fuck especially when you're grinding. This is what turn normies off of turn based RPGs.
Action based however, forces the player to pay attention to enemy movements eventhough you're fighting the same enemies. It forces you to pay attention to the enemy's action almost all the time. However, despite that, action combat’s main flaw is with big boss battles or even big enemies. This is where action combat (for now) is it's biggest weakness. Unpredictable hit box, bullet/hit sponges bosses, and only a certain area of the bosses body can be hit/locked on. This is what regular action based combat style/system they used. Some even make the boss battles too QTE-centric. However, some games like Dragon's Dogma and Shadow of the Collosus did have some excellent huge boss battles.
In conclusion;

Repetitive battle (random encounters are annoying as hell, but newer games seems improve upon this with using a system like in Persona games or like in LR but still some sort of grind is required if you're underleveled before a boss battle)
Awesome boss fights

I look at these new character from 15, and i just can't find a single good thing about them. Maybe their stories will be good, but when you are looking at THIS, during a cutscene, i can't just take it seriously. It is like trying to take handsome squidward seriously.
Maybe they would be better if you could change their clothes and hair.

Because the design choice for XV is very segregating. Higher level spells are in the game; in gameinformer's cover story they talked about combining lower level spells to synthesize stuff like Blizzara. As for magic being an item, ring magic is a separate type of magic which will hopefully use mp instead.

There are fira/firaga, blizzara/blizzaga. But yeah, elemental magic is limited to 3 at the moment. But the ring magic is still unknown, SE is really quiet about it.

The disparity between Noctis' stupid Sasuke Uchiha hairstyle and that generic suit is goddamn hysterical.
Really though, 99% of the outfits I've seen so far for FFXV are boring as fuck. Absolutely none of it stands out as something I could look at on its own and go, "oh yeah, that's ____'s trademark costume!"
Even the more reserved costume design in previous titles, like FFVIII's main party, has still been iconic.
