Can we have a civilized FFXV thread without memespouting shitposters and XV-kun's autism for once?
- What are you excited about the most?
- What are you worried about the most?
- Are you going to buy it day one?
- What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?
>>
>>337571713

>excited
Action combat, overal style and variety of the game
>worried
Potential catering to casuals and turn-based shitters. The giant on screen prompts to not be removable and bad performance
>buy it day one
Deluxe ed. pre-ordered
>demos
Both felt underwhelming but Platinum is an improvement
Should've had a different enemy tho, not IG
>>
Looks great. Will buy.

>- What are you excited about the most?
The full gameplay system, the OST, exploring the world, the story because It's been 10 years and I just want closure on how everything culminates.
>- What are you worried about the most?
Performance on consoles, PS4K should fix most of those tho, PC version would also happen at some point down the road so I'm not too worried.
>- Are you going to buy it day one?
Yes, getting Deluxe edition.
>- What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?
Performance wasn't the best and the gameplay was barebones in them, but what little we did get to try of the gameplay and visuals showed a solid foundation for whats to come.
>>
>>337573148
>The full gameplay system, the OST, exploring the world, the story because It's been 10 years and I just want closure on how everything culminates.

Can't wait.

I count FFXV as the first modern FF game. XIII series kind of fell of the path, imo, but with FFXV, it looks like FF has once again found its footing. In my mind, FFXV is the start of FF franchises third "phase of evolution".

FF1-6 was phase 1.
FF7-10 was phase 2.
And FFXV begins phase 3.

Hey
>>
>>337573512
I liked 13. Didn't deserve the hate it got. I'd put it above every FF before 5 and it's better than 8
>>
>>337573683
It's an alright game. It did a lot of cool things. But it's when FF sort went off the tracks. Then it got worse with XIII series.
>>
>What are you excited about the most?
typical SE overindulgent flashiness and the god tier OST
>What are you worried about the most?
The combat being clunky and the game world being empty and boring. Hopefully character building won't be paper thin like it seems to be
>Are you going to buy it day one?
been waiting for it too long not to
>What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?
I actually hated Duscae. The combat was garbage and it ran like shit. The carbuncle one really saved my interest in the game.
>>
I just want it to play like it did here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNdGGlHtmcg

Seems unlikely tho, considering it was shown 2 years ago and the game never looked even close to that ever since

Still getting it day 1
>>
>>337574109
But that's what exactly the game plays like when you use Armiger in the Duscae demo.
>>
>>337575208
Nah, it's not.
In Duscae it just randomly switches weapons and uses random attack slots (C/R/V)

In the video combos are clearly structured the same way as the regular ED combat mode, but it's faster and Noctis can teleport fluently between enemies.
Also the camera doesn't suck
Also the ravage combos are much better

Every attack being done in that clip is with attack button held down and he's using Armiger too. We saw them use that "1 hit then warp to next target" ability in the progress report from Jan. Other than that they just have either extended Crush attacks or they were just using Crush animations for Ravage parts then.
>>
>>337575565
We still don't know if that "Ghosting" ability is a manual or charged pre-scripted thing like in Witcher 3 though
Could be either considering Noctis does some kind of charging animation before the move comes out.
>>
>>337575729
It just says it's a Phantom Ability.
>>

The story being shit, a good story is all I want from a Final Fantasy game.

>Tabata: Kitase-san is a tough debater. I was witness to a heated exchange, where Sakaguchi-san was pointing out that Kitase-san knew in his heart what he should be doing, yet not doing it, while Kitase-san’s argument was that some efforts are simply not realistic.
>Sakaguchi: I recall saying something along the lines of “Nothing is impossible, you're just not trying, break the box and think outside it!“ (laughs)
It's interesting that although Sakaguchi acknowledges that Kitase is a great director, he just doesn't have the guts to go all out unless somebody pushes him to. Pretty much sums up the main problem of his producer era. And it looks like Tabata doesn't have that timidity.

>>
- What are you excited about the most?
I adore the overall aesthetic and setting and that the plot is basically about male bonding with your dad and your friends.

- What are you worried about the most?
Too easy combat, not being able to turn off step-by-step quest markers, framerate

- Are you going to buy it day one?
Sure, got the deluxe version preordered for the nice steelbook and dee el cee

- What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?
Combat is versatile as hell once you grasp it and start experimenting, but the demo had pretty low-tier graphics and framerate, which I hope is because it was rushed. Then again Duscae already proved the game proper looks and runs better

Comfy roadtrip moments, summons, Noctis railing Luna on their wedding night in the epilogue.

>Are you going to buy it day one?
Pre-ordered it already.
>What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?
Duscae was super fun and had good combat after the updates.
Platinum had stellar music that reminded me of Kingdom Hearts and was a good technical showcase.
>>
>>337577591
>Sakaguchi: Indeed. I also realized that things probably aren't easy for Tabata-san. It was the same for Chrono Trigger; taking over from someone else and rebuilding a project is hard work. So I was commending him on his effort; “It's actually pretty rough, isn't it?” (laughs)
Didn't know CT had a similar history. According to wiki, Kitase and Tokita only took over the directing and writing later in development; originally they weren't even part of the dev team.

>- Are you going to buy it day one?
It comes out the day after my birthday so I might.
>- What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?
Both of them were rather light on content but I enjoyed them except for the young Noctis part of the PD. PD's gameplay didn't blow me away because there isn't much to do with it but it was missing a lot so IMO the final game will be better. Still not a fan of the button holding though.

I did tone down the blue tone in that image but it's really the value curve that I find issue with. That shot has a much more sensible curve, which is a bit strange to me since they both seem to be taken from the platinum demo under the same lighting condition.

The blue tint I get is intentional and has to do with the fact that real world sunlight is actually slightly bluish rather than the yellow most people think, but it seems a bit overdone; wouldn't you say the shot looks better once that's been toned down a bit(pic related)?

Platinum demo really dented their marketing. Performance and jaggies. (I hope Umbra will do the trick) Magic targeting system is still clunky. Combat is abusable.

Nighttime in Duscae? How was it? Never get the chance to play Duscae, but I really like the nighttime in Platinum. The transition from dusk to night is so beautiful. Assuming they hadn't implemented it at all in PD it could actually improve things significantly. Umbra involves occlusion culling, which is basically a fancy way of saying "not rendering stuff that's behind other stuff and will get covered up anyway" To a human this seems obvious but the way the render pipeline is designed, the computer (normally) has no way of knowing what it can "safely" throw out; in fact, "overdraw," as it's called, is a common problem not only in gaming but even with rendering graphics in webpages and apps. If Square already knew they were going to license Umbra but hadn't actually implemented it in the engine yet, it's conceivable that there's NO culling going on right now which would be a huge performance hit. Also in an open world game with XV's scale there would be overdraw out the ASS so it probably will make a big difference.

>- What are you excited about the most?

Having an open world RPG to waste a good amount of time in.

>- What are you worried about the most?

The quality of the side content, the writing/characters and the story at large. It's the first time SE has done an open world game, and I really wouldn't put it past them to make all side activities a shallow, barely even rewarding timesink, as for the story...well, it's SE.

>- Are you going to buy it day one?

I'll wait for impressions first, but if it's good I'll buy it.

>- What good and bad can you say about the demos if you played them?

I only played the Platinum demo, and the combat felt a tad too stiff and the controls too unconventional for what was, by all intents, a conventional action combat system. Also the rest of the (tech) demo was just boring, platforming felt like shit and there wasn't much else to do in it.

>What are you most excited about?
For SE to fix this shit before release:
>No automatic air warping
>Currently if you're near an enemy but closer than auto warping distance, noctis will get pulled into the enemy when you attack. Remove that.
>Holding the stick in a direction should take priority over the auto-targetting system when choosing an attack direction, both on ground and in the air. The greatsword air attack is already good.
>Special attacks should work at all ranges. Only being able to do one from a specific range is boring. Also put them on their own button like in duscae, so that the stick is reserved for changing direction while attacking.
>Hold attack to combo should be removed. Each button press should equal one attack.
>All moves should be available outside of combat. This will allow players, and especially beginners to experiment with the controls without any pressure.
>Enabling armiger during attacks.
>That auto backstep is another thing that happens automatically. It looks really cool, and that's why I think it should be manually triggered.
>Being able to hold jump to automatically jump as soon as possible after an attack should be removed. You should learn to jump quickly after an attack from experience and practice.
>Flashy air movement is too easy to achieve. It should still be possible in my opinion but it should come with practice, after playing the game for 40 hours maybe.
>Dissidia 012 has some great tricks with it's special moves. For example Kain's "jump" ability can be cancelled by dodging after the jump portion of the ability to make a quick escape, or do any other attack instead of the downward spear attack. They need to do a lot of this type of stuff for FFXV.
>More weapon slots, or a way to switch sets during gameplay
