Anyway, it was strong enough that I was doing some yellow phantoming in the boreal valley and I was one shot killing the knights, hallows, and dogs with just the blast consistently. The immunity to stagger is especially useful because you can just run into the middle of a large group of enemies and kill them all even as they hit you in PvE.
PvP it's not that good because it's unlikely to 1 shot kill somebody so it's only good in a gank situation to catch people trying to roll past you

Everyone's been using caestus as a parrying dagger since it's parry frames are instant but it has decent potential for damage.
The weapon art can be pretty useful for PvP but it's pretty high skill cap. The amount of stamina for attacks is really low for it and attacks come out kinda fast. There's a ring that boosts damage with successive attacks that goes decent with it and it has good damage scaling (I think 40 dex and str give it ~230-280 AR). That stacked with the ring that increases damage with successive attacks makes it not bad. Add carthus rouges for bleed and you royally fuck up a lot of bosses.

In Dark Souls 3 the following:

Something like that. Scaling is split between the two so it doesn't matter too much which one you level first. If it's your first playthrough you might have a hard time getting used to them against certain enemies.
You can check out Distortion's Caestus speedrun for some reference though (mind the spoilers). Damage is pretty low starting out but it gets pretty crazy later. Basically just put points into Dex, Str, Vigor, and End. Enough vitality to wear whatever you want. Max Dex and Str as fast as possible if you're good enough to dodge and budget stamina.

I'm considering upgrading a silver kite shield and infusing it with simple to use with an estoc. Pokes, blocks, FP regeneration, and instant weapon arts at the press of a button. You're right about not doing that much damage compared to two handing but with a leo ring and refined infusion you'd be doing a decent amount of damage timing your pokes. It'd be a fun dueling set up.

Dark Souls 3 does in fact have Poise, It's just turned off in the game files. If you're willing to risk a ban you can actually edit said file to turn it on. It literally takes 10 seconds and all you have to do is change a 0 to a 1.

Literally all they need to do to fix the fists is make them swing faster.
Right now an r1 with a fist weapon is literally as slow as a great sword swing. I know, I used them to fight the mad dark spirit npc in the undead settlement after getting them and my punch and his swing would hit that the same time.
