This is a Yume Nikki thread.
This game made me overdose on weed I almost died
How do you even play this game? The zones are fuckhuge and usually have few discernable landmarks so you just spend 2 hours walking around
>>336087958
Get the bicycle. The pop hair lets you leave flies behind that you can use as markers in some of the bigger areas, but you can't use it with the bicycle.
Just walk around. That's what you're supposed to do. Walk around and eventually you'll find stuff.
And then after you've got to the point you can't seem to find anything new,use a guide.
>>336087958
They're actually not as big as they seem, they just loop around. You can methodically scan an area pretty easily using the few landmarks there are.
> the game will never reach version 1.0
>>336088476
Why is that anyway?
I want topicnic witha toringen!
bumapu
Listening to the soundtracks while half asleep is something magical
What do you guys think of Yume Nikki 3D
>>336088523
I heard the dev killed themselves, not sure if it's just a rumour though
>>336089702
i used to get high and play the game well into the wee hours, it was a really weird time in my life and i like the somewhat depressing/empty kind of mindstate it would put me in
>>336089720
It's great. If it were completely finished, it might surpass the original.
I might be a little biased, though, because the Gary Numan sample loops in the black and white world are all from my favorite album.
>>336089720
Haven't tried it.
>>336089720
I thought it was pretty fun. The theremin in the hospital legit creeped me out.
>>336089929
The devs are just fine last I checked.

I wish I could have cool dreams like Mado.
>>336092659
You never had dreams with similar ambience and atmosphere as Yume Nikki?
I thought that game simulated dreams perfectly, certainly felt like I was revisitng my old dreams.
>>336092981
I have yeah
>>336092981
I may have had one or two. But most of my dreams usually involve me going around in crowded places for some reason, or just in general involve a lot of interacting with others.
Only recent one I can think of that may have been like Yume Nikki I was in a grassy area and decided to go in a cave I found. For some reason I felt some presence in the cave that filled me with dread so I ended up leaving. That's all I really remember.
>I hate Yume 2kki because there isn't one overarching mood or a connected feeling!
They're fucking dreams, they are weird as fuck. Realistically dreams are more how they are in 2kki rather than all having some subconscious meaning like in Nikki and .flow
I played it for a couple hours a couple weeks ago and really liked it. I'm trying to play without a guide but having issues knowing what's going on.
>>336091303
YN threads are always slow, but comfy.
>>336092981
My dreams are always realistic and never have any crazy shit like this game. Though this area feels like something I would have a dream in.
>>336089000
were the toringen always that sexy?
>>336094652
Would you picnic with them?
>>336094652
Maybe.
>>336087404
>tfw you were too late to theorize all the bullshit about what this game could have possibly meant with the internet
I found this game in like 2011 but it was still talked about to death by then.
>.flow is my fuggin' jam
>Haven't beaten Yume Nikki
I think the time is right, but could someone give me a little extra push? What do you really love about the game?
>>336087404
>tfw sitting on a functional playable test of a fully 3d game like Yume Nikki
I have a story ready and everything, for some reason I just stopped though.
>>336091303
Actually, this is the most /v/ thing when it comes to Yume Nikki (at least post-/vg/ when the community was split, moderation kicked up, and reddit became a bigger entity). Yume Nikki threads are always slow yet more on track with the topic while being pretty mellow in conversation, compared to most of /v/'s threads.
>>336095291
Are you the guy from /agdg/ who's making that Unity game about his weird ass dreams, or you just have the same idea?
>>336092659
>>336092981
I usually have weird dreams when I take anything that makes me drowzy. I've had lucid dreams and a lot of sleep paralysis too. I had this dream last month and wrote it down since it was strange.
>dream where I finally die and still stay asleep
>find I'm just living in a ghost world with other dead people
>being around lots of living people lets you experience their emotions
>negative emotions feel like burning ice and I notice shaky black looking voids converge on those people like ticks
>no heaven, hell or anything, but you can fly upward into space and end your existence as a ghost, scattering yourself across the stars so you can stop thinking or feeling
>find a spot that feels warm like a bonfire and see a ghost lady sitting there
>intense, crazy warmth
>notice we're in a baby's room
>a guy walks in with a baby and it feels like I'm burning up
>ghost lady turns and for the first time I can make out a ghost person's features
>she's smiling
>she looks up, flies toward the sky and scatters
My dreams can be fucking weird.
Oh damn I almost missed a YN thread.

Thanks, I'm kind of reluctant to get a dev blog going mainly because the development of the thing is incredibly nebulous.
The idea is that this game doesn't take place in a dream, but in a surreal world you explore through controlling a young android. The idea is that the android had been imbued with the consciousness of a child, but the programming doesn't mesh well with the consciousness; Both entities cannot understand each other, and this results in hallucinations. Sometimes the Hallucinations manifest in more meaningful things that represent events and people in the child's life, other times they represent simple, but scary things, like the child's consciousness becoming aware that it doesn't have lungs to breathe anymore. I want to give a reason for a Yume Nikki-like world without it actually being a dream.
>>336097526
very cool, is the camera automatically changing to show that part of the environment there?
funny enough i actually had a dream of a 3d yume nikki style game which had that sort of feature. sometimes it changed the camera to a side view to show something large in the background or something.
>>336098868
sounds like a reasonable plot, as long as you keep it surreal and drippy it'll probably be a total trip. I'm interested in a devblog so that I don't miss it when things DO happen moreso than constant updates
>>336098991
That was the thought process behind it. I actually do want to have different views like that.

This sorta happened to me a week ago, but it was more of a bittersweet ending to a game or movie.
Me and a nondescript person get off an elevator, i am shown me setting something down nonchalantly and we walk forward to what looks like theslums of a city. I cant remember what we were talking about, but we walked pass a somber looking guy who owned a food kiosk that was in the wall. We walk by other nondescript people and head up stairs around a building to an outdoor bar or something.
We eat something, and during that, me or him talk about always fiding the good in people, and to always try your best to help others. We are approached by 2 men, who tease us, call us names etc. Yet we were unfazed, listened to them until they left and we got up ourselves. The some music is playing and as we walk down the stairs and of into the city, the camera pans slowly retracing where we were walking. It show the kiosk man opening a letter that was left on the bar table. He looks at it, and shows a wide grin of happiness.
The camera pans to the elevator where it zooms in on the floor, where a teddy lays in the light.
The dream ends, and i cry myself awake. I do not know why, but i was incredibly sad when i woke up
I don't like game theory but I wonder why he never did a theory on this game when its entire fanbase is made up of theorist.
>>336101440
I really like the witch island, too. And the snow world.
But my favorite is probably the neon world. It was the first place I explored and the neon effect was the first I found, so it still holds a special place for me. Sometimes I like to put on the effect and just walk around in there. Makes me feel like I've become 'one of the neons' so to speak, and feeling like I somehow fit into the area makes it seem all the more comfortable. I get a similar feeling using the witch effect on the island or the yuki-onna effect in the snow world.

>>336105509
I think it's still going. I haven't been keeping up with it too much though.
>>336105548

Anyone else gets sad when they remember their dreams or dreams more when depressed?
I have always been able of remembering my dreams, but in the last five years even if the dreams it selfs are happy or enjoyable I find my self feeling sad or down upon waking.
Lately I have been forcing my self to wake up in a hurry or focusing on something as soon as I wake up because I have been borderline depressive.
Sorry for the blog post but YN threads are always comfy and the best place I think to ask to more people about dream related stuff.
>>336105509
still being worked on. latest update was in march i think.
>>336105548
it quite literally is about nothing except walking around
so if it still interests you then go for it
>i've never heard of this game before
i know i really shouldn't ask but how new are you?
>>336106181
Pretty new
>>336105956
I only get upset when the dream itself makes me sad, or it features a happy scenario that I'm not a part of when I'm awake. Are you seeing yourself as happy in your dreams?
>>336105548
I fucking hated it when I first played it back in 2009. I was into /x/ back then but I thought the gameplay was awful since you just picked a door at random and walked really slowly through huge, empty rooms.
Then I decided to give it another chance in 2010, I think there was a thread about it either on /x/ or /v/ telling a few things about the game - how to get the bike effect, how to get to certain items, etc.
I'm really glad I gave it a second chance because now it's pretty much my favorite game.
If you find it boring at first, google how to either get the bike effect or do the speed glitch using the chair in Madotsuki's room (this makes you like 3x faster than using the bike) and you'll be just fine.
>>336106312
ok
also pro-tip. if anyone mentions her having been abused/raped/depressed or whatever its all bullshit.

>>336106364
I see memories from past times mixed and matched with a dash of surrealism and once in a while the odd ball complete YN experience.
I guess I am happy(most of the time) in my dreams
>>336106563
>>336105548
it's more than a walking simulator, walking simulators literally are just walking. yume nikki is about exploration and experimentation (with the effects).
>>336106563
>>336105548
I would like to say(and sorry if this sounds pretentious) that Yume Nikki is an interactive experience, it has the base qualities of a game of course(menus, objectives and a finite goal), but I would say it is more akin to a visit to a museum than other videogames.
"Walking simulators" were pretty different before the whole indie "industry" boom(I'm aware of the oxymoron) since people did them to experiment and really express themselves, of course there a few commercial old walking simulators like the lost souls of tong nou and LSD sim, but they were scares enough that their mysticism still held it's ground.
>>336106672
Yume Nikki is pretty much a walking simulator alright, only made right I think. Your reward after walking is finding new shit and places to go, finding out how everything is connected and experiencing some weird shit. It doesn't make it less than a walking simulator since you spend 90% of the game walking around aimlessly, but also doesn't mean it's bad.
If you really stop to think about it, the term "walking simulator" fits Yume Nikki more than other games where it's used (like Gone Home where you spend more time clicking everywhere trying to find stupid shit than actually walking, and when you finally do walk is just between small rooms).
>>336106658
Maybe it's your memories kicking in and giving you that sad feeling or something like that. Who can say, really.

>enter the toilet, one of our guys was killed, slaughteted into bloody mess. The whole room is red with blood
>they start to blame me
>realise that we didnt kill everyone and someone is gonna hunt for us
>>336107039
sure, it literally describes one part of the game, but it trivializes the gameplay and doesn't really say what it's about. i think calling it an exploration game is much more apt.
i mean, most games where you play as a person are going to be mostly walking, but that's not the important action or idea of those games, even though it's an essential one. yume nikki is one of the very few games with an actual large focus on exploration, and one of the even fewer that does it extremely well. that alone puts it in a different place from what's normally considered a "walking simulator". and i wouldn't consider gone home one of those either. it's a puzzle adventure game like myst, just extremely light. dear esther fits more since it's linear and consists entirely of walking. but still, "walking simulator" isn't a good genre title, it basically appeared just to trivialize the gameplay of bad adventure games.
>tfw you play yume nikki when tired
>tfw the game and reality bleed into each other
>>336108015
i disagree

I shared this in a previous thread, but I dreamt that my high school basically became Silent Hill for the day. >after I twist the chain the tape comes loose
>then some girls from the area start going through the boxes
>the find a bunch of flat bras and gossip about the new flat chested teenage girl moving in

I had a dream where I was crossdressing as Mado on a train. It was a nice dream.

I had a dream on the night before a new school year, where this teacher we had (who was very effective at disciplining our rowdy class) was actually deriving pleasure from telling us students off, his face grew red & horns popped out of his head.
Another dream I had I was walking through an underground parking lot when another one of my teachers walked around the corner wearing his signature black trenchcoat. I walked up to him & said hi & the bastard shanked me with a knife made of ice.
>>336120985
>signature black trenchcoat
Even in adulthood, the edge is real.
After a traumatic night of literal torture (electrocution), I slept a few hours in exhaustion & woke up after dreaming I was running away from a 2-headed snake that bit each of my feet (the wires I was electrocuted with were wrapped around a toe of each foot) & they started electrocuting me.Haven't had a related dream since.
>>336121086
Now that I think about it, it doesn't help that he was our computers teacher, but I feel the guy really pulled it off.

>After a traumatic night of literal torture (electrocution)
Is this in the dream or do you have a much more interesting story to tell us?
I'd just broken my snorting virginity on a line of Ketamine. Shit was getting real, the bass from the speakers started sounding like pure treble, & I had tunnel vision, like my eyes were a couple feet ahead of my face. When my legs grew tired of walking up & down the corridor,I sat down & dozed off. The next instant, I beheld beautiful green plains with a smattering of forests. I was riding some stone-age mech (like mechwarrior mechs) made of carved rock, wood, & ropes, & slowly descended a hill to behold a post-apocalyptic city that had been reclaimed by nature. The whole time I had only a sense of wonder.
>>336117542
First chapter maybe. But absolutely not the rest. It emphasizes certain things way too much and makes you expect a plot where there isn't one.
Would love to violate Madotsuki while she is dreaming
>>336121638
It's not that interesting a story really. Blogpost:Dad drags the family from living in Japan back to Iraq because "muh home country". I eventually learn to like it there. Then the Iraq War happens. Security goes to shit. 2 years later, after a night of studying for my 2nd year uni exam, our home is raided by 4 armed men. They timed it with the availability of electricity (90% of the time we were blacked out). They tortured me via electrocution, then my mom in front of me; they pulled out a bunch of drawers (right-side-up) & laid her on them, then proceeded to electrocute her too. My dad they didn't do much to, since he was old & they didn't want to become murderers. They were after any valuables we had. Among other things, they got my mother's jewelry, priceless both in monetary & sentimental value.
After that we left Iraq, leaving behind most of our bigger valuables (again both monetarily & sentimentally), expecting to come back for them once we'd settled down. Soon we received news that our house was looted.

What the fuck anon that's insane.
Shortly after graduating, I once dreamed I was back in school. Standing in the lobby, I extended my palm as if to receive something, & a small pistol landed there. I went to the library where I found some of my classmates studying, including one of the class hotties. I hugged her from behind, pressed the gun to her neck & pulled the trigger. She vanished & I had in my hand a folded piece of paper.
My classmates went on full alert & started chasing me, but I was already running down the hall. Their voices yelling my name was ringing in my ears.
I finally lost them & hid behind the school. I unfolded the paper & there was our hottie, with her legs spread.I pressed my cock against her vagoo & began fucking the paper, which shortly turned into her, before waking up.
This may or may not have been my own foresight as to how my sexual preferences may end up.

Still, it was once translated into Arabic & printed in an ICRC newsletter. Fuck it, reading material for the bored: http://unwindlife.blogspot.com
>>336123915He did regret it, for what little bit of life he had left. My dad has since passed away of natural causes that started with a stroke that left him mostly bedridden, especially for the latter half of 2 years. Don't get me wrong, he had a lot of great qualities, but to me especially, I mostly got to see the worst of him.
My mother is going to be next, though she's in good shape physically, she's getting there.
I ended up shutting myself in. I always used to think it sucks that we have no savepoints in real life. I'm very spergy about getting things done right the first time, but life only started going downhill starting from when we left a developed country to live in a war-riddled country. I'd come to terms with not being able to reload a save & stay out of there, but after everything else that happened, I lost my will to live.

Seek help.
When I was a kid I once blinked and missed the whole night. One second I was lying in bed at night looking at my door, I blink, then suddenly it's morning and my mom opens the door at that exact moment. It freaked me the fuck out. It still kinda does.

Probably not but I constantly get in a state where I'm aware that I'm on my bed sleeping but can keep the dream up for as long as I feel like and cut it at any moment to wake up completely.Too bad my dreams are almost all shit and boring. I rarely even get to be a cute girl.
>>336124496
I know that feel bro, one night I promised my big brother I'd wake up myself if he let me stay up to watch a movie. That night I closed my eyes & opened them immediately to the sound of my alarm in the morning.
On a different note, one morning asleep, I heard my clock go *click*, that little click it makes right before the alarm starts to ring, & I bounded out of my bed & flipped mid-air across my room to where my clock was (some 4 meters all together) & switched the tiny alarm switch off, all before it beeped even once. I was surprised with myself.
>>336124523
Now that you mention it.
Whenever it happens, i could feel like as if my body is REALLY trying to wake me up (jerking my limbs, etc).
Even going so far as to make me constantly eat boogers from my nose when i was a kid.
Didn't meet any shadow people or anything hallucination-worthy.
Though it feels pretty lonely in my dreams.
So maybe it depends on the types of fear that we have.
I doubt it though, because if that were the case the room in my all dreams would have their lights turned off (mild Nyctophobia) when they're actually on.
>>336124331
What manga is this? Google search etc gives nothing
During my mid-late teen years I was a very violent sleeper, possibly inherited from my dad. I kept dreaming I was having a fight with this girl in school who was actually a friend of mine. I ended up having to line the wall & my headboard with pillows because I had already punched & kicked my wall full power, & headbutted my headboard.
It stopped happening eventually, but happened again relatively recently. I don't know what I was dreaming, but I woke up to find myself mid-air, my body performing a double-pirouette while still horizontal, & finished with a downward-kick with the front of my foot right onto my PC tower (on my desk) that woulda made Bruce Lee proud. After hitting it I landed on two feet. The PC was completely unhurt, thankfully no hardware that matters resides at the top of it.
>>336125034
>the room in my all dreams would have their lights turned off
You were already in the process of waking up, so what you were seeing wasn't a dream, it was your actual vision. Your brain was still in the process of starting up the rest of your bodily functions (movement for example).
In this state you could say you have one foot in the waking & another in the sleeping, so you may have hallucinations.
Last time it happened to me (couple weeks ago) a shadow person was peeking through my door, somehow it very vividly became a comically classic Count Dracula, & I woke up yelling "YOU CAN'T HAVE MY BLOOD COUNT DRACULA!"

I have this weird recurring dream about me being chased by the army throughout empty suburban areas and malls and I run away from them in all fours, like a cat would. Although I run fast it feels like I'm running in mud and the dream ends when they are able to reach or trap me.
I also have these dreams where I could float in the air by hugging a pillow and moving my legs as if I'm swimming to propel me towards a direction. I often wonder in the dream why other people haven't thought of this yet.
>>336125632
>it was your actual vision
That's strange.
Because when it happens, it feels like as if my eyelids are opened AND closed at the same time.
Maybe the whole thing was a frigging hallucination.
>>336126562
Oh boy recurring dreams. Since I was a wee lad I've dreamt I'm running with Gizmo (from Gremlins) in my arms. I'd run through my house into my dad's study, whose walls had turned into jungle (it was usually a jungle of paperwork). I'd hide under the desk as I hear buzzing & a swarm of bees would pass us by, searching for us.
Otherwise I have this weird sensation that many of the dreams I could recall when I wake up are recurring dreams. After waking & thinking about them, I couldn't help but feel like I've had them before. And I might have, but then it hits me; I'd just been looping the same dream as far back as I can remember over & over again, in that one morning. My personal Endless Eight. And when it happens another night, it's with a different dream.
>>336126609
I believe that while your brain is receiving signals from your eyeballs, the part of the brain that actually controls your senses hasn't started up yet. You probably couldn't actually feel your eyelids & whether or not they were open.
>>336123147
I also have these back-to-highschool dreams, but they never get sexual.
It usually devolves into a scenario where we have this math exam and I don't know how to solve one question. I usually wake up when I realize ive already graduated high school so I shouldn't be afraid of failing it.
In regards to YN, I never have dreams as colorful as the areas in it. My dreamscapes are always heavily-based on real locations. What do I do to get these dreamscapes?
>>336127093
>while your brain is receivivg signals from your eyeballs, the part of the brain that actually controls your senses hasn't start up yet
That makes sense.
Still, i don't know why it happens randomly.
I'm betting it's because of sleep deprivation.
>>336127394

>>336127562

>>336127394
You probably need to widen up your creativity.
Probably the only way i can think of.
Usually, a person who is more grounded on their creativity is probably less colorful.
Say, does anyone else feel like they're much more likely to have a vivid dream if they change something about their sleep environment? Like any of the following:
>sleep in the buff when you're used to sleeping dressed, or vice versa
>sleep without covering yourself with sheets when you're used to being covered, or vice versa
>sleep with music on when it's normally off, or vice versa
>etc
>>336127556
You should just read the article >>336123903 posted. Sleep itself is still a mystery but correlations with sleep paralysis tend to be sleep deprivation, irregular sleep, sleeping in specific positions, among others.

I have loads of fucking weird back-to-school dreams.
I remember having this one dream where I was being chased through school by some staff, and was taken in to little hidden rooms by some group to hide me from them.
Then all kinds of weird shit about some conspiracy in the 4th, closed building, about people being experimented on.
Then I ended up being chased up to the roof with another guy in that group that helped me.
We were cornered, he turns to me, "you are not ready", pushed me off the building and I woke up.
Fuck you guy.
>>336127556
Inconsistencies with the brain waking up basically are the reason for a shitload of mental disorders and weird feelings.
The brain generally follows a similar frequency, kept by a single timekeeper in the brain (which was only just found a few years ago, actually, being researched for new anaesthetic research)
When one part falls behind, it causes all sorts of shit. Weird eerie feeling of being watched, things out the corner of your vision, sparks in vision, dim vision, weird smells, forgetfulness and so on.

Usually it's just parts of the place shifting like crazy.
But that was only once.
Lucid Dreaming general:
Here's an easy way to lucid dream that I learned to do:
When awake, regularly look up.
When trying to sleep, just keep looking up.
When "dreaming", keep trying to look up.
Trying to look up constantly when resting requires some heavy focus so you don't drift back to the rest position of the eyes.
Likewise you can do it with body parts. Keep your arms up in the air, off the bed.
Another way was dry-mouth method.
Dry your mouth by rubbing tongue off roof.
Sit a glass of water beside bed.
Imagine, as intensely as possible, getting up for a drink.
Imagine everything in your vision that you would see, all at once. (do it once just so you have something to work with!)
Imagine even how your body moves when you get up, bending, reaching, everything.
I've been having dreams where I have a gf fairly frequently now. Waking up is painful.I also had a dream where I managed to install Gentoo. When I woke up it was still compiling.
>>336128049
I tend to imagine deeply from time to time. The longest I've ever been stuck in a daydream was an hour or so, just thinking about an ideal life.

Hint: the game's name is "Yume Nikki" for a reason.
Start writing.
>tfw this game helped inspire my interest in sleep research
Granted it doesn't directly deal with dreams, but nonetheless I hope we eventually make a breakthrough in what pretty much is the stagnant point of dream research. Would love to do some of that.
I have had a lot of crazy dreams. One of them was when I was little and i dreamed i was playing with, i could only assume, a ghost that moaned eerily when I wanted to go back to bed.
My most recent dream (or dreams) is one where I was taking a walk along a road surrounded by tall grass and I even remember there being a stone bridge I passed under. Anyway, Here's where things start getting weird. A wolf comes out of nowhere and is snarling at me. So what do I do? Run? Scream? Fight back? No, I go right up to it and Snap it's fucking neck. It was at this point that I woke up in the middle of the night. After going back to bed, I had another dream where I was in prison. What for? For killing the wolf of the previous dream. After what i'm fairly certain was a lot of bureaucratic bullshit, I suddenly realized that I was in a dream. And because of that, I was let go.
Yet i've still had weirder.
I need a fucking dream journal to help me go into the depths of my mind, cause i'm probably fucking crazy deep down.
I don't get why a game like Yume Nikki or Yume Nikki 3D creep me out so much if I know it's for the most part safe. It's all just a dream, nothing can hurt me, and yet it creeps me out and scares me without fail.
Around the time I started using Sad Panda, I had a dream where a loli followed me home. I don't remember the specifics, but essentially she was getting horribly abused. She lived at ExHentai, which was a physical place for some reason, in the end I returned her and felt bad about it.
Bittersweet dreams (I guess that's what you would call them) are the worse.
>Dream of meeting waifu in dream with her friend for a date
>Start chasing after her up some stairs after she runs away from me playfully, just ecstatic to meet her, and actually see her in person
>The second I grab onto her hand that she extends out to me, the dream ends
Or
>Hanging out with a group of friends, ones made up but really felt connected to
>Wake up, think about friends and how we are gonna hang out later on again, actually believing they are real for a second
>The realization hits me hard a few seconds later
And another memorable, yet cliche one
>Back home, with family, living old carefree, youthful life
>Enjoying beautiful weather, watching some anime, friends are coming over to hangout, overall just relaxed and joyful
>Wake up
>Realize I'm still in the military as I'm being waked up to begin daily trainingSorry for the blogpost, I just wanted to throw my feelings out onto this thread

As an exception, Ghost World. Didn't have either darkness or eyes but the atmosphere makes up for it.

I really like this game, but whenever I try to talk about it to people, they either say it looks like shit, or is an undertale clone, or something like that. I used to get really irritated by it, but now I think its actually better. I like that none of my friends have played it because I don't think they would understand it. YN & .flow have become very personal games for me. YN in particular was one game that inspired me to draw a bit. It's my go-to game for whenever I'm down about things. I can just go into a dream world and wander and forget about everything. That escape really helped me in high school and it still helps me in college. I guess that if my friends had played it, then I wouldn't have that escape anymore.
