Yeah they seem to rely on the enemies and estus a lot more than in the past. Like that guy said though anything is fair game. I don't use estus unless I see them doing it and when I'm in coop I always let the host try to 1 on 1. If I can I'll block the door leading out so the invaders can't run away. Haven't had any issues so far, they always see me blocking the door they came in and don't try anything.

Everything after Pontiff is pretty good for invading. There aren't as many gank squads for some reason, invader traffic is high, and there's a special covenant for the area to help ensure 1v3 doesn't happen.

The covenant works, there's just not enough demand.
Notice how when you invade somebody, a blueberry will appear instantly. That's because there's way more sentinels then there are people to protect, so when somebody actually does need help, the game pulls out of the giant pile of excess sentinels to send to that world. When you become a sentinel, you get put into that giant excess pile.

i used to get pissed in DS2 because once you got any sin at all, you'd be invaded by a stream of blues until you died. eventually i went to the bonfire before the demon of song and popped a giant seed which would get a kill 100% of the time, since the blue would spawn in a hallway with one of the big spore enemies that's impossible to run past.

If you go through Cathedral of the Deep first, you'd be a lot higher at Farron Keep, but you can invade people just going through the crab pond, too. Obscuring ring is actually bad for doing the "Hiding in plain sight" gimmick because the pop-in can give you away.
The real problem is when people use the obscuring ring in places like the Aldrich invasion area where they can see large parts of the level and ensure they are always far away from you. It's literally impossible to track somebody down like that.
I only have the darkmoon covenant left to do and I never get summon.
