Please explain why he's any better than any other "knight with a sword" boss in the Souls games? He's literally exactly the same as all the rest, except he's all dark and edgy and honorable, which I guess is appealing.

It's the background to his character that everyone likes. Every souls boss is pretty similar if you think about it, there's some variety like when there's a bunch of doppelgangers, or having to take out a bunch of skeles, but for the most part it's just roll here, strafe there.
people hype him up because of his backstory more than the fight itself, it's a pretty meh fight

In Souls? Probably the Penetrator.Souls games don't have very good gameplay compared to other aRPGs.
I know this is bait but I like discussing the fight anyways. It's just a fun fight, he reacts very well to your movements, try's to hit you shen you heal, and you really have to base your movements around when he fucks up just to get a swing in. I liked it, his hyper aggression made for a fun fight.
I had full upgraded giant's armor and a zwei, so I killed him in 6 hits.
His music is shit. You can barely hear it anyways.

They were all options, every boss that's classified as a boss (minibosses like Doran and chalice dungeon bosses weren't included for size reasons. Also I couldn't remember them all).
