It has AMD tier drivers. Copy pasting from an old post of mine.
I did the mistake of upgrading my drivers (352.86) when i didn't needed, just because they were "new". From there, i only had problems.

>353.30 had a bug where gpu heavy software freezed for 5 seconds or so
>358.30 introduced stuttering "shadowplay" recordings
>358.50 improved "shadowplay" a little bit but introduced a bug where every 3 or so minutes, the mouse sensibility got doubled (i have a CM xornet)
>358.91 fucked my Sony Vegas. It crashed every time i pushed play (but fixed my mouse sensibility issues)
>359.00 doesn't crash sony vegas anymore, but the "video preview" stays black when i play my edits
>359.06 & 361.41 apparently fixed all my problems but now i get input lag when i record with "shadowplay" (wrong, the weird mouse sensitivity bug is back)

Then i downgraded to 352.86, but as soon as i executed "Nvidia GF Experience" i got a BSOD with the error "Driver IRQL not less or equal" and then windows stooped booting. So i installed "Display Driver Uninstaller" and removed everything in safe mode. Then i installed the last driver that worked somewhat fine for me (353.30) and i got a BSOD with the same error as soon i started windows.

I lost faith in the official forums after they told me that i needed to use a SSD to get 60 fps "shadowplay" recordings, even after i told them that on older drivers it worked fine on my WD HD.

I will format my PC this week after more than 2 months of making back ups; i will block any attemps of updating. This shit never happened to me while i had an 5770. Thanks nvidia.

Open the control panel and watch the temps. Chances are the drivers are just fucking with fan speeds and some people's aging fans are croaking because they don't spin up or something. If you catch this before anything severe happens, you can just replace the fan and call it a day.
>>
>>333300545
I'm sure you're going to call me a retard but I also have a 290x and I have no idea how to overclock it. I look shit up and everywhere says different shit.
>no don't use afterburner it just raises the minimum voltage and will wear out your card faster
>no don't use your BIOS you have to raise the maximum voltage too
Etc
So I just haven't touched it. How did you do yours?

Also if you know, how do you OC a processor? I've got a 3570k
>>
>>333301456

You have tow main approaches.

1) Use crimson to bump up the power target as well as core clocks. This doesn't deal in voltage so outside of a great chip you probably won't get very far.

2) Use tools like Afterburner or Trixx to add voltage to allow MOAR NIGGAHERTZ.

As i'm a crazy motherfucker with serious cooling i'm using trixx as it allows for a +200mv offset (which is nearly 1.4v). If you add voltage only do it a little (10-15mv) at a time and monitor core temps as well as vrm1 (thats the one that gets hot as fuck). Just keep benching something like unigine valley until it no longer keeps stable and/or gets too hot.

>Also if you know, how do you OC a processor?

For Intel you need a mobo that supports it. Assuming you do you need to go into your bios and fuck about there. Up the multiplier a little at a time and run some sort of cpu stress test (like intel burn test) to see if its stable. If not add moar volts.

Also: go look up what load line calibration is.
>>
>>333301056
I have been monitoring temperatures and they seem fine so far. I always watch temps so I can catch a sign of my GPU dying as that is my biggest fear.

I know the screen tearing when I use the scroll bar in steam isn't an issue but it's still a fear.

Nvidia aren't getting worse as people may think. It's just amd are benefitting from all these new api features (dx12 with async etc) and console optimizations.

Most benchmarks for nvidia cards are done at stock speeds which is, on paper, a fair way to test the nvidia cards. However when you realise that not one vendor card comes without a stock overclock and that the most popular 970 (msi) actually comes with a 200 mhz overclock it makes the benchmarks inaccurate since very very few people actually have stock 970s. That 200 mhz overclock, paired with another 100/150 mhz boost via gpu boost 2.0 will make the 970 gain atleast 10/20% of extra performance which is normally, or even bigger than the margin between the 390 and stock 970 (or 970 and 290x).

There are rampant fanboys from each side but they can't deny that both cards are very very neck and neck when they're tapped out. The vram thing is another issue but 2bh I doubt anyone will run into problems with either card since my older 780 only had 3gb vram and I haven't had one problem with it and the 970 has more.

All in all though they're very similar.

I'm getting really tired of explaining this to retarded AMDrones who refuse to actually learn things and just like to spout their shill shit in every thread, so I'm just copy pasting my last post.

Because the cause of this issue is complex and people refuse to do the fix.

Long story short, the WHQL flag on 364.51 was ignored by Windows, and the default Windows VGA driver was installed over top of the official nvidia one after reboot. Since the driver is multiple DLLs, it's loading several microsoft and nvidia dlls at once and causing serious issues.

If you were affected by this during your 364.51 install, you NEED to use DDU to sweep the old busted driver out before you upgrade, or else the busted VGA driver stays installed.

People who used DDU or didn't use 3643.51 are fine, and the people who did are too stupid to use DDU.

Nvidia can't fix this with their installer because the busted VGA driver is in the WinSXS driver folder which can only be modified with an Administrator account on Windows 8.1 and 10 (Account only, admin privileges on a lower account don't work)

If you up the speed without upping the voltage, there's practically no difference in lifespan. Overvolting will, but who knows how big of an impact that is.
>>
>>333319694
You can use 4k DSR nicely on a 1080p screen since the image can be squashed down to fix exactly in a 1920x1080p pixel space.

1440p on the other hand doesn't fit that perfectly since its not a multiple of 1080p. The image will be rendered at 1440p but squashed via VSR or DSR and the image will look kinda off. I can't explain it exactly but it just doesn't scale that nicely from 1080p to 1440p.
