It's called shareware. A concept from the 90s that now one uses anymore because companies know people will buy their products even if they don't gezt to try it ou beforehand.
You should be using 7zip anyway. It's smaller (both in size and memory footprint), faster and more efficient.

im still surprised winrar is even being maintained all these years later, you dont even a traditional crack just the little keyfile, been using the same one since 2008. i only use it out of habit despite there being good free alternatives like 7zip.
