I just noticed this. What was with Nintendo's obsession with sea exploration and faraway island settings during the Gamecube era?

Trying as hard as they can to get away from their nippon island and the disaster that the Game Cube was
>>
Come to think of it, Animal Crossing GCN also introduced the island

Why aren't there any comfy cafe games for Wii U?

Sunshine and WW have my favorite settings in any game. Sunshine moreso because they played with the idea well with each part of the island you went to.

My nigga. I fucking love just hanging around in Sunshine, seriously the most comfy setting ever made in a game.

SS Dolphin

TTYD isn't really a strong example for ocean-exploration, since PM64 also had a sail-to-a-tropical-island chapter

Probably to show off the GC capabilities of creating far bigger worlds compared to the N64 and without fog.
Oceans work better I assume considering you don't have to render trees and grass compared to forests and deserts are generally boring and have a less adventurous feeling.
Would you rather sail the seven seas or die from dehydration in the sahara?

But the plot is basically about sailing to and exploring a faraway land and Rogueport is the main hub if the game
