I literally just replayed the entirety of DKC last night, beginning to end, for shits. The level design isn't as good as SMW, but SMW hasn't been outdone even by Nintendo themselves. What the DKC series does have though (especially #2 and less so #3) is some of the tightest and smoothest control of any platformer, ever. Compared to DKC, stuff like NewSMB is a slippery, plodding mess.
