>Intel core i-5 4440 Quad-Core Processor
>Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
>Cosair Vengence 8GB (2 X 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
>Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB
>Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
>MSI GTX 970 GPU

or am i going to have to scrap my whole PC? i

Well you can keep the case and PSU, if you haven't totally cheaped out on them, as well as the HDD and SSD (although that one is a bottom of the barrel shit).
As for the rest - you'll have to replace the GPU for 4k and it will not be a distant future where the slower clocked locked Haswell i5's won't cut it anymore, at least in some games. Which means replacing the MB, CPU and RAM.

It's gonna be fucking fine.

VERY few games even utilize CPUs to their full potential. Most simply use it to run the program itself, rest being left for the GPU. If the i5 starts feeling too slow, you can just swap it to the fitting i7 model later on, probably for dirt cheap by then, and overclock it.

8GB DDR3 is good enough for now. You can easily double it later on. Many benchmarks show that the DDR4 really has no real effect on performance; just gotta have enough for the programs to run.

1TB is fine, though you'll fill it sooner or later. When that happens, get a new, bigger one!

GTX 970 is a beasty GPU that definitely should do the job for 1080p-1440p gaming for the next few years. The DX12 cards are just around the corner, but there's literally zero games using or even supporting it. So you can safely wait for the next generation of DX12 cards, or even one after that, and then grab the one that fits your needs.

Hell, I'm still running i5 2500 + 8GB + 560ti 1GB, and I see no reason to upgrade yet.

I have an i7 4770k, it will last another few gens.
My 780 is hanging on in there. it'll start struggling if things pick up, but should last me until the next series gets released.

I like it when poor people start giving others hardware advice.

i built my PC 5 years ago and it still runs games at 60 fps

so this is the power of pc gamymen?
that will become obsolete within 2 years and you'll have to upgrade,or you can buy a ps4 and play games on it at 1080p 60fps for the next 8 years

That's 3 years, not 5.
I believe you with MGSV on High, but in less optimized games we're fast approaching medium territory.

Come on now, stop being silly.

PC thread? PC thread.
We had a good thread on Saturday night about all things PC.

I'll start.
I'm currently stability testing my overclock.

Default:
CPU: 5930k @ 3.50 GHz @ Auto voltage
RAM: 32gb DDR4-2133MHz @ Auto (1.2v) @ 13-16-16-28(?)
Uncore: 30, 3000 MHz @ Auto

Overclocking:
CPU: 5930k at 4.5GHz @1.25v.
RAM: DDR4-1600MHz @ 1.2v
Uncore of 31 (Default is 30)

I've been able to boot windows, play a full round of CS:GO and only when changing maps does the game close itself. I noticed that when changing maps, the FPS dwindles down until the game closes without error. I take this to mean it's not stable? AIDA64 was passing 3+ hour stress tests on full load.

I've been able to boot windows with 4.5GHz @ 1.25v with RAM @ 2133MHz @ 1.2v and pass AIDA64 for 4 hours. When going to stress for stability using CS:GO, only then did I get hard freezes.

Does VCCSA or VCCIN voltage help increase stability? I feel like my overclock of [email protected]/[email protected] can be stable if it got more voltage? I don't know, maybe not. Maybe I'm only stable on [email protected] / [email protected]

Tools I'm using for stability and monitoring;
>HWinfo
>AIDA64
>OCCT
>HyperPi

What tools should I be using for additional stress testing/verification of stable overclock?
>>
>>320150301
yeah, but poorly optimized games aren't the PCs fault
>>
>>320150382
Do you have Speedstep on?
Are you using a set manual voltage or offset?
>>
>>320150527
Now you're just crossing into denial.
I might have worded it badly too - a game being more demanding doesn't necessarily mean it's badly coded.
>>
Hey what's best monitor just for 1080p for under 250 bucks?
>>
>>320151353
http://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00B2HH7G0

It goes for $250 or less all the time
>>
>>320150605
Manual voltage.
I've disabled EIST and XMP.
I'll need to check for sidestep, but I thought I disabled it.
>>
>>320150605
EIST and XMP are disabled.
C-state set to C6.

Might as well as here since /g/ would tear me a new one: My computer just bsodded during a game, and booted in repair mode. However, I had a power cut during the repair and now it won't boot. It must detect the hard drive (since there's no _ in the top left when there's not bootable device), but it's just a black screen where you'd attribute the windows logo. Is my hard drive/ graphics card fucked up?

Turn computer on, mash F8 to get into recovery options. Then follow the recovery options if you want or boot into windows per normal.

Also, /g/ supports these types of questions, so don't be scared but they might direct you to >>>/g/SQT
"SQT" for Stupid Questions Thread. Not to say yours is 'stupid' but that it's a place for off-the-wall-tech support.

You can't really futureproof. On the plus side, the vast majority of PC games can easily be played on a PC from 5+ years ago on decent settings depending on what setting you want to play at. The only real reason to upgrade is to play on a higher resolution monitor.

that thing costed me 1100€ in 2011. Been worth every penny so far; I run everything at 1920x1200, med-high combo settings in latest games, and still get smooth framerates.
