My friend who has been playing since 1.0 stopped playing relatively recently saying its the worst its ever been.
What went wrong exactly? I played all of 1.0 and some of of ARR when it first launched, right up to until the Titan fight was released i think.

Instanced Hunts would have actually been somewhat better. The problem is you need to kill like 20 trash mobs in order to get to the "star ranks", the ones that drop the gold chests that matter. There needs to be more ways to pop these star ranks, ones that actually correspond to exploring shit and doing the objectives, instead of just grinding mobs on a single island endlessly.
When will we get an MMO that isn't just another WoW clone? I know, WoW clones are what people want. That's what makes money. If a developer tries to do anything different, the game dies because nobody played it enough. But the games that copy WoW die in the end all the same because they're boring... How do we fix this?

Doesn't change the fact that he lied to us and let us down. The patches before were ok, because we knew what they were going to be and looked forward to it (...). Heavensward was promised to be this MASSIVE AWESOME EXPANSION WITH BILLIONS OF HOURS OF GAMEPLAY THAT WILL COMPLETELY CHANGE THE GAME FOREVER, but it was just a slightly bigger patch that we had to pay for. People got tired of that shit and left.
To be honest though, the game was dying by that point anyway. Heavensward was the last ray of hope, the last thing that kept people playing, and it was shattered right in front of us.

They told us what the content would be, but they didn't tell us that it could all be cleared in about a week (or less) if you hurry, and maybe a month or two tops if you don't, leading straight back to the daily grind and lockout. They didn't do anything new, they just repeated the same old formula but hyped it up to be amazing.

I just don't understand why they haven't given the team more staff and budget. Wasn't 2.xx doing well? How the fuck is the same team going to produce more content than they have been? Are they just funneling the money into FF15 and FFVII:R?
There's a few real issues:
- The amount of content per patch/expansion once leveling is completed. Two dungeons per patch is not enough.
- Raids have four bosses per tier every six months. Either it's too easy, too hard, or has a huge difficulty wall in the middle instead of a smooth curve, and this obviously is the result of only having 4 bosses.
- All content must be extended into a 3-6 month grind to make up for the lack of content to do, this includes new types of content like the Diadem (see >>319442610)
- Expansions do not provides large updates to gameplay systems, even though 2.0 was a complete redesign of the game. The only thing you want in gear is to get to your accuracy cap but not go above it, and get a higher ilvl. Everything else doesn't matter for most classes.
