Yuritopia is here. If you haven't bought it yet, there's something wrong with the way you're living your life.

http://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php?goods_type=1&product_code=165

Demo available, but just take my word for it, it's worth more than $35.

Am I the only one who thought it was a bit weird how Yuna takes a month to figure out how to reply to Hina's confession, but then she goes from 0 to "Uh, yeah, there are these ghosts at our school who want to possess us and use our bodies for sex, that cool with you?" in half a conversation?

I had the same impression, especially since she tells her about that right after her confession. I guess she just wanted to settle the matter as soon as possible - the two ghosts were putting quite the pressure on her, especially Megumi - and relied on the fact that Hina was still confused and happy from her confession.

Though it still has the typical "issues" of the yuri-genre. (way too many short-stories, few longer running stories) But hey, more yuri games are coming, and I'm sure either Flowers or that chuuni one will probably be "better" in that regard.

Still, I do think it's kind of a waste of potential. They make a VN and have enough of a budget to do a ~30 hour one, and what do they do? No branching and tons of short-stories every yuri fan already gets with all the one-shots or ~2 vol serialized manga.
There is a main-story though, which is what saves it for me. Though I guess then summer (camp) came, and I never touched it since then, as even the main-story became unappealing to me.
>>
>>1991689
After finishing the extra stories, I can say that it doesn't really feel like a collection of short stories, although you might get this impression at first because you don't see the characters interacting much with each other(the extra scenes fix that and also do a good job at fleshing out characters that didn't get much screentime).
This isn't like, let's say, "a kiss and a white lily" where you actually get the impression that you're reading a collection of one-shots because the characters all have their sub-plot where they often don't even need to interact with the main characters.
>>
Well, I guess 3300 is more or less real number
http://steamspy.com/app/402620
Looks pretty promising for the next yuri localizations
>>
>>1991699
Does it? 3300 doesn't seem like that much, granted who knows how many bought it on Mangagamer instead. Probably not as many given the payment processing issues (I assume those are fixed now?).

Steamspy is kind of odd. Was up to just over 4k owners a day or two ago, and then when it updated with the stats from the 21st and 22nd it dropped to the 3800 it is at now. The margin of error is still huge but I have no idea how these things are calculated and narrowed down.

Since this does not include mangagamer's sales (which should spike when their payment problems are fixed, unless it already is?) I am going to assume Yurirei sold pretty well for a niche within a niche (within a niche?) thing priced at 30-35 dollars and is the herald of the yuritopia that will bring more great games to us.
>>
>>1991701
Mainstream titles are usually should sale around 2-2,5k to be considered a success
>>1991704
I actually doubt that mangagamer sales from their site will be any good
Everyone who wanted play the game bought it already
>>
>>1991704
Steamspy numbers aren't reliable, since the data is extracted from a limited number of user profiles. Also consider that there are people who have pre-ordered the game from mangagamer and haven't used their steam key, for several reasons(not everybody wants to let their friends know that they're playing lesbian annie may games with sex scenes in it), and therefore there are people who are still waiting for mangagamer to fix their payment issues before getting it.
>>
>>1991689
Well, IMO it works better this way. A easy way to screw up a romance story is making it too big, at the point where a lot of unnecessary things start to get throw in it just to have something to keep writing about.
So I kind of like that most yuri works are shorter stories. If this was an adventure story with romance as subplot it could be bigger, but otherwise, I think it's better not to stretch it.

Since Flowers is about lots of different couples too, I doubt it will be too different (unless there's a big focus on the mystery part, but I heard it wasn't like that). The chuuni one isn't even yuri. It's subtext.

For the majority of the playthrough I couldn't get anything from Hina's personality besides liking running and meat, speaking near-entirely in "Mm"s, and being vaguely attached to Yuna. She showed a little more characterization later on, but still.

Admittedly, I might be biased because I was hoping for an Ano route practically the entire time, so there's that.

Why is it over? I don't want it to be over. How do I make it stop being over?
I'm sad now.
>>
>>1991886

Funny, that's the reason why I stopped after the main part of summer was over. Hina should've really been written differently. When.. you know what.. started in summer, I just got annoyed. Typical (w-why is my heart beating faster?!?), predictable(the childhood-friend... of course) and terrible (can you even call Hina a character? What's there to like?).

Can't call it anything else. Maybe it gets a bit better later on, but so far I have a hard time caring enough to even continue.

But well, nice to see others enjoy it. To me it plays "way too safe", and I don't like that anymore in Yuri, as it's such a common trope. The girls who "meet first" or are "close first" (based on what the story says) stay like that, no matter how the story ends up being written. Ever since I read a certain manga which was 90% about the MC getting close to a girl, but at the last page she just randomly got together with the girl she liked on page 1, who however barely mattered, I'm kinda salty about that. That manga even introduced a random fourth girl, to pair the left-over girl with. In the last freaking chapter. And it's not the only manga where that shit happens. So weird. But that's part of why I like Seisai no Resonance so much, I guess.
>>
>>1991995
>So weird. But that's part of why I like Seisai no Resonance so much
If only you didn't said that, then your opinion would worth something
Seisai no Resonance was actually generic as fuck in everything. There was nothing new or original. And just like with 90% of anime/manga author was too afraid to actually use japanese mythology in full power and just used simple and short version of it
>>
>>1992001
>too afraid to actually use japanese mythology in full power and just used simple and short version of it
Imo, it's a good thing if a VN doesn't require you to have a bachelor's in japanese mythology to understand what's going on.
>>
>>1992008
No, simple and safe versions just like generic archetypes are always bad or at least not good.
You didn't need to have a bachelor's in japanese mythology to understand Akai Ito's plot, but it was surely a nice bonus if you know more when "anime" level of subject
I would usually just ignore your post, because everyone have their own opinions(I for once actually think that characters in yurirei were less generic than usual for genre), but Seisai no Resonance was the one of the most generic vn I know, including het harem nukige

Aki got the most benefit from the extra bonus scenes.

Her just chilling and being acutely aware of Youka's intentions was hilarious.

Same here, my first impression of her was completely shattered after that scene. It's made even better later when she reveals that she was already aware of Youka's crush and considered her a romantic target from the very beginning.

I thought their ero scene was funny, because Aki always seemed like the one in control of their relationship, yet at the crucial moment she went weak-kneed and Youka had to take control.

Maybe it was a momentary weakness because in the bathroom stall scene she was pretty much the one in charge, although in that case they didn't actually go all the way.

Very studious pair.
>>
>>1992297
Still, with only one sex scene it's kind of disappointing for Aki to choke and not really establish dominance at one of the most important points in their story. Some notes just need to be played. Youka can pull a reversal and the characters can become round/well-developed in the extra stories or something.
>>
Are Mac versions available?? :-(

You could probably get it to run under Wine, but I'm 99.9% sure there'll never be an actual mac version just because of the work it would take to port the engine.

>Aki to choke and not really establish dominance
But that's the best part. It makes them well balanced.

>become round/well-developed in the extra stories
That's exactly what happened right? Aki is great from what we've seen in main story but in the extra story she evolved into the best girl ever. They also show us the dynamic between the gaming trio, Miyu and Miki mutual understanding, and Hina&Maki friendship.

I meant that that "balance" could have waited for the extra scenes. Nobody would initiate anything if they were really so worried about "balance".

If the main story focus is to show the couple's story then they should show the dynamic between couple in the main story. The extra scenes, in the end is just 'extra'.

>Nobody would initiate anything if they were really so worried about "balance"
Youka ask for second rounds, and Aki drag Youka to make out in school toilet. Balance is all about give and take in equal amount.

>Aki always seemed like the one in control of their relationship, yet at the crucial moment she went weak-kneed and Youka had to take control.

I really liked that, honestly, though I didn't see it as going "weak-kneed" exactly. I've read that real-life people who have to be in 'dominant' or controlling roles for things like jobs, e.g. CEOs, have a strong trend of preferring to be submissive in sex. Since they'd normally be needing to stay in control constantly, being able to let go and let someone you trust take over would be appealing. And Aki struck me as someone who'd fit that pattern well.

Though apparently there's a bathroom scene I haven't read yet which has Aki more dominant, so, quite possible I'm just overthinking the yuri vidya.

REJOICE

I guess I really was left thirsty for Hina even after fullclearing the whole thing, porn or not. I decided she would be my favorite character pretty quickly but maybe those complaints that she was too bland had a point.

>>1992367
This is probably just me but I'm aware of those kind of people and I'm kind of tired of it. Conversely, I thought Youka would be too dumb to handle being in control, and possibly even fumble it away during sex.

>I thought Youka would be too dumb to handle being in control, and possibly even fumble it away during sex.

>>

I haven't seen many depictions like that in games- though now I'm remembering some tsundere characters which could fit, I just didn't count those- so I liked it more, but can understand feeling tired with the phenomenon. And I could see Youka doing that all too easily, ha. Love that girl, but she's a dolt.

Also, honest question: as one of those people who did think Hina was bland, what did you like about her? Open to anyone, I was seeing her as a lot of people's favorites and was wondering why.

I don't know, man. It doesn't seem worth it to me.

It's a standard price for a full-lenght title. Sakura Shits have ruined people's perceptions of visual novel lenghts and costs.

Do we have any past sale prices from this company on steam? I feel like 25% off by the steam summer sale isn't too far fetched.
>>

Eden has often gotten 50% off, so Kindred Spirits might reach the same. Though 25% off is more likely.
MangaGamer also frequently does sales on their own site, like Valentines etc. This year there wasn't one due to issues with payment processor.

WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS WHEN ZIP EXISTS.
>>
>>1993315
rar saves more space but it's sort of pointless which of the two are used when it comes to files that already have some kind of compression applied (mp3s for instance)
>>
>>1993320
Why not use GZIP with maximum compression? All algorithms for handling RAR files are proprietary. It's also correct that applying compression to already lossy compressed files won't compress them further at all, but to upload a pack of files it is necessary for them to be on a compressed format, and putting them on RAR is a pain in the ass, at least use something libre.

I played the rest of the game with this immense dread in my heart that Hina was going to pull a Sachi and yank Yuna back from falling off the fucking roof in an accident and fall to her death. I thought they were very good.

Not really arousing, but good. This really is an eroge only in the most technical sense.

What I thought was pretty disappointing, though, and this is a pretty prevalent thing in japanese media in general, was that basically nothing happens after each couple's sex scene.
November is almost completely blank in the planner, and that feels like a missed opportunity. I would've loved to see a scene or, a few scenes, with each couple going on dates or something, but there's nothing like that.

I think when a couple gets together properly is when the story actually starts, but this game and a lot of other media like most yuri manga seems to think the story is over at that point.

I still think the VN is still structured well for the first read-through, though, because it introduces the characters and storylines in a more stuttered manner so you don't get overwhelmed, but that's not an issue when you've already finished it once.

No, 900 was a small number for the big novels
5k is actually a very good(if steamspy doesn't lie, more or less correct number will be released in monday anyway)

>>1995200
For that price, and for the genre it belongs to, I would have never expected it to sell that much in the first 2 weeks. I was expecting around 2k at best, and I guess Liar Soft also didn't have any bigger expectations for this western release.
High priced VNs that sell much better usually appeal to a more mainstream audience(see Clannad, Grisaia or otome games).

Judging from how Remembering How We Met and Kindred Spirits sold, I'd say it's safe to assume that we have a small but very dedicated fanbase in the west, and that makes me really happy.
>>
>>1995205
>>1995225
well as long as people are happy with it I guess

I still wonder what kind of sales the game would have gotten in the counterfactual world where it was cheaper though.
>>
>>1995200
>but I have to wonder what kind of sales numbers they might have gotten at ~ $10 or ~$15

Things like the Steam sales suggest that price cuts usually pay off (cut the price in half and more than twice as many people will buy it) but I think this is probably an atypical example. The number of hard-core yuri fans who were also unwilling to pay $30 for it is going to be very small.
>>
>>1995233
In Japan it was much more expensive. I think it's all about demand: since it's a relatively obscure VN(as in not part of a bigger franchise, like SonoHana) of an already niche genre, there's a bigger chance to find a small number of people willing to buy it for a higher price rather than find many people who would buy it cheaper.
Now I wonder if there's a chance that Mangagamer will issue hardcopies too. Should we ask them?
>>
>>1995244
>>1995245

I would also like to see the kind of sales it would have gotten at ~$50 as well.

I'm not really a hardcore yuri fan as such (or maybe I am, I do like yuri at least), but I bought it at $30 because I liked the idea of uncensored, well-translated yuri on steam and wanted to encourage the concept as much as anything else. The game ended up being pretty alright too, so that was nice.
>>
>>1995244
>Steam sales suggest that price cuts usually pay off
The Winter Wolves developer has said several times that from his own experience it's the opposite, which is why his games are always priced around $20-$25 and why he decided to cut back on big discounts for relatively recent titles.

That's like saying don't call love live love live anymore because it has different characters. The title was named for the series because it started the series. (Series: a number of things, events, or people of a similar kind or related nature coming one after another.)
I could see if it was a different setting and story like chaos;head and steins;gate which exist in the same universe events but there is no real reason to change the title as that isn't the case.

Hina, but I still feel gypped out of an Ano route

Hina ended up being not super interesting until her apple scenes anyway
>>
>>1995494

What did she actually say?

>>1995505

The original title was Okujou no Yurirei-san.

Okujou = rooftop
Yurirei (百合霊) = Yuri (百合) + yurei (幽霊), ghosts (lit. faint souls)

So 百合霊 is literally "lilly souls"/"lilly spirits".

Or as someone pointed out a little while ago "Poltergays"
>>
>>1995527
You're wrong.
Why would I imagine that? Or why would I need to imagine that? That situation is unrelated to this as those are movies/games that are named in correlation to specific characters that are the focus and changing the main character would destroy the meaning of the title.
In the case of "gay spirits on the roof"
The title is derived from the original game in the series which focused on the gayness of the spirits on the roof, and if you played the game the gay spirits on the roof were kind of the main reason all the gayness got more gay. The reason the game is called gay spirits on the roof is because of the gay spirits on the roof which started the gayness, if not for the gay spirits none of these events would have unfolded.
