Hit the nail on the head. Vietnam was the first televised war, the first time civilians back home who had never seen the horrors of war got to see up close what was happening, and they were understandably horrified. Now thanks to the internet it's even worse.
Honestly I don't think it's a bad thing, I think it helps drive home the fact that violent conflict should be a last resort. On the other hand, the days of mass civilian morale during conflicts is over, and making pro-war propaganda effective is very hard now.

That said, the worlds nicer in general, so when people see the truth of it all at once, they are probably less likely to handle it well than in the past. People dont even see their meat slaughtered and butchered anymore, or go hunt small game as a casual activity. So yeah, i can see more different kinds of oportunities for people to get traumatized now than in the past, but i dont believe the overall chances of an average person encountering one of these is up, if anythings its way down, even factoring in the new opportunities.

Its better now than its ever been. So we sit here and enjoy the relative safety and wait and see if someone figures out a way to improve it even more.
The world cant be fixed, its fundamentally flawed, this is one of mankinds oldest concepts. Every religion i can think of thats not some newage hippy bullshit calls the world evil. You dont fix it, you survive it, and we are doing pretty damn well right now. Ive been here almost a third of a century and nobody has tried to kill me once, to my knowledge.

Overpopulation isnt a thing. Lack of food production in poor areas is the problem. The planet can holds dozens of billions of people, at least. The problem is that we dont have a way to provide food to many of them. But with advances in vertical farming and aeroponics and whatnot that will become less of an issue
