I thought this was excellent. Both Ace and Benny had plenty to do, The Scourge were a fascinating enemy, and the pacing was spot on. If I have any quibbles it's that the resolution is a little too "muh power of love"-ish, but it made sense and worked in the context of the story. What does the rest of /who/ think?

I think Who has reached a level of popularity here in the states that it doesn't really matter who they cast in the role, people will watch. Keep in mind that there are plenty of older fans who watched it on PBS back in 70s-80s who are grown up and watch the new series, so the fanbase isn't just teeny-boppers who wanna get off to young actors. Alternatively to this confirmation bias fantasy, the staff of the show (including Peter) made the completely logical decision to evolve his Doctor so he wasn't the same thing two years in a row.
Resulting in series 9 having moments far 'darker' than anything we saw in series 8 as well as moments of greater levity. Almost as if his character became more complicated.
