Yeah, I really like Eccleston and Capaldi as actors and doctors.
I hate Smith and its a shame because I loved the stories.
I just cant stand the Rose/10 romance shit and I dont like the overall atmosphere of the first seasons.
I want to see the whole Capaldi era, he is brilliant. I have yet to see the forrest episode, the finale, and season 9's last 6 episodes.
Overall I think the concept is awesome but Im not a big fan of how they execute it. I checked out some classic who serials and I loved them, but its hard to get the spanish subs for them.

"PREPARE FOR FINAL ASSAULT ON GALLIFREY"

Big Finish (We Love Stories) is proud to present:

THE WAR DOCTOR - VOLUME 1: ONLY THE MONSTROUS

Starring SIR JOHN HURT
and JACQUELINE PEARCE

https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-war-doctor-1-only-the-monstrous-1380?range=113

Don't bother with Forrest, the rest are GOAT
>>
1.1 The Innocent

As the Daleks mass their time fleet for a final assault on Gallifrey, something ancient is waiting for them at Omega One. And a sacrifice must be made.

Arch manipulator and Time Lord strategist, Cardinal Ollistra receives shock news of the Doctor’s death.

Meanwhile, on the planet Keska, a parochial war has returned to plague a peaceful civilisation after decades of tranquility. But how can such a war have any connection with the great Time War which, at any one moment in the whole of eternity, could threaten to tear the universe apart?

If only the Doctor were still alive.

1.2 The Thousand Worlds

With the high ranking Time Lord Seratrix behind enemy lines, the War Doctor finds himself assigned to a rescue mission. But any room for manoeuvre is severely restricted by an area of space known as the Null Zone.

Times have changed on Keska, and a countdown to destruction is beginning.

But who are the Taalyens and what is their part in the great and terrifying Dalek plan?

1.3 The Heart of the Battle

Trapped in a citadel swarming with Daleks, the Time Lord rescue force must find a way to overcome insurmountable odds. With the Daleks apparently planning to rule the Null Zone, perhaps their thirst for universal conquest and victory has been quenched…

The War Doctor doesn’t believe so — but how can he prove it without destroying any chance of peace?

As the countdown to the destruction of Keska proceeds, a deadly choice must be made… A choice that will define this Doctor and perhaps forever cast him in the role of ‘monster’.

>Of course, the most important thing to say about 'Rose' is that it was written entirely from Rose Tyler's point of view. The Autons provide the plot, but the story is all about her. (There's an old Hollywood saw, describing the vital difference between plot and story. Plot is: the King died and then the Queen died. Story is: the King died and then the Queen died of a broken heart.) I'd love to tell you that months of analysis went into the decision to focus on Rose, but the fact is it didn't take a second. Some things are just instinct, and the rest is hindsight. Hidden amongst a million options, there is one way to write something. And finding that one way is my job.

Nope. She's gonna be there in person anon. She's got a Tardis and all the time in the universe to get back to Gallifrey whenever she wants.

When the Doctor first sees her he might think it's just a vision, but she'll turn out to be the real thing

Doesn't need to be a reunion. Some subtle cameo would work. Happened when 4 and 5 regenerated, 10 had a farewell tour of all of his companions and side characters (bit much), and 11 had a vision of Amy. Regenerations should have callbacks like that.
>>

Nah, they shot themselves in the foot by having him forget her. Yeah, he knows the woman in the diner was his companion that he lost his memories of now, but it won't mean much to the Doctor to see her since his emotional attachment got wiped with his memories. That's why I don't think it will happen even if I'd have liked it to. It'd be one thing if she forgot the Doctor but since he forgot her the trouble of explaining that all in his farewell episode wouldn't be worth it for a cameo that would be lost on the average viewer. And they are not going to bring her back for anything other than a cameo, I'd bet money on that.
>>
>>63590120
I disagree. Only one I took issue with was 10 visiting so many fucking people. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a cut scene of him visiting Elton and his Ursula slab. Him just checking in on the major players of his era would have been good.

Imagine how clunky that would be though. There'd have to be some exposition of who she is and how he'd forgotten her in the first place along with how he's remembering her, all in scenes where we're supposed to be focusing on the departing Doctor and whatever the plot of the regeneration episode is. Then you'd probably have to explain why the Doctor doesn't look go looking for her in her travelling diner after he's regenerated. It's more trouble than it's worth for just a nod to the past.
>>
>>63590128
Doctor Who isn't just a TV show, there's lots of other media released often (we have a big John Hurt audio series releasing on Monday for example) like audio stories, comics, books, etc. That, plus the fact the show has over 50 years of history, means there is much more to always talk about. It's not like GOT where there's just the books and the show, and there's a proper "offseason", because Doctor Who has something release at least every two or three weeks.

That's not even mentioning the fact we have an episode airing on Christmas which is very soon.
>>
>>63590704
>There'd have to be some exposition of who she is

What? Did they do anything like that for 10's farewell or have to explain who Amy was? No. So not a problem
>>
>>63590846
Those are entirely different cases though, that's what we've been discussing. The Doctor hadn't forgotten who those companions were, so their emotional significance didn't have to be setup. Clara popping up won't have any meaning for him aside from 'oh, you're that companion I had that I forgot' unless they go to the trouble of explaining the memory wipe away.
>>
>>63587566

But why would we need exposition on who she is?

The Doctor would get memories flooding back as I previously said cause regeneration's weird and healing shit, and so he'd know anyway. And we already know who she is and about the memory wipe

It's not him seeing her and asking who she is and then having to explain that she was a companion and got mind wiped or whatever. Literally one throwaway line about the regeneration energy fixing the wipe would do. Then straight into "my clala"

In December 2015, the Time War will rage and only one man can save us. John Hurt is The War Doctor!

John Hurt, the world-renowned star of film and television, is returning to the role of The War Doctor, in twelve full-cast Doctor Who audio plays.

The War Doctor was introduced for Doctor Who’s Fiftieth Anniversary, and played a key part in the record-breaking television special The Day of the Doctor, alongside David Tennant and Matt Smith’s Doctors. He is the secret incarnation of the Time Lord — but he has shunned the title ‘Doctor’ in order to fight in the Time War against the Daleks.

“I have been a huge fan of John since first seeing him in the repeats of I, Claudius in the 1980s and in his Oscar-nominated role as the eponymous The Elephant Man,’ says Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery. ‘Watching his performance in The Day of the Doctor I did find myself fantasising that some far off day we might have the chance to work with him on the audio adventures of Doctor Who and now two short years later it’s happened! John wove a fantastic character together from a great script by Steven Moffat. Now we have the chance to get to know that character more and hear John stretch in the role. We’re all in for a hell of a ride as the War Doctor engages in battle. But who are the greater threat - the Daleks or the Time Lords?”

The audio adventures of The War Doctor will be told over four box sets, each containing three linked hour-long episodes. The first box set is entitled Only The Monstrous, and is written and directed by Nicholas Briggs, whose many successes for Big Finish include the BBC Audio Award-winning masterpiece Doctor Who: Dark Eyes.

“The story of the Doctor who refuses to call himself the Doctor in order to do the unthinkable upon the ultimate battlefield — all of space and time — was irresistible to me,” says Nicholas. “Such a deeply disturbing and engaging character created by the formidable talents of writer Steven Moffat and actor John Hurt. It’s such a privilege to be working on this.”

The cast of The War Doctor also includes Jacqueline Pearce, who plays Time Lord Cardinal Ollistra — an arch manipulator who is waging the Time War against the Daleks. Jacqueline’s work includes The Avengers, Callan, Doctor Who: Death Comes to Time, Moondial and Russell T Davies’ Dark Season, and she is known to many science fiction fans for her role as Servalan in the cult classic Blake’s 7.

Only The Monstrous will be released in December 2015, and will be followed in February 2016 by the second volume, Infernal Devices, which is written by John Dorney, Phil Mulryne and Matt Fitton. Volumes Three and Four are currently in pre-production.

“What an utter privilege it is to work with such an iconic actor, playing such a brilliantly devised role,” says producer David Richardson. “This is Doctor Who at its darkest — the era in which our hero casts aside his core values in order to try and save the galaxy in its most terrible hour. We promise bold and brilliant story-telling with gripping character drama, and epic and cinematic audio productions.”

Looks like they'll start off as Hurt fighting Daleks, fighting being manipulated by Time Lords, and struggling with the conflict between being loyal to his people and not being a violent maniac, etc. Looks like he will steadily get more 'monstrous' as the audios progress. The descriptions of vol 2 also make it seem the more surreal elements of the time war will come into play more as the audios go on.

im assuming by the end of vol 4 we'll all be legit disgusted with war doctor. Briggs isnt the best writer in the world, but he can definitely manage that (remember the EDAs).

Think about the fact that this won't be happening for atleast two more years. Then think about how this would play to the average viewer who doesn't watch the show as seriously as we do. The fact that he would have to justify why he can ecen remember her would be jarring in a scene like that and would take the focus away from him and ruin an emotional beat. When Amy appears you don't really have to know who she is other than 11 quickly and easily saying 'first face this face saw'. In the 12 seeing Clala scenario he would have to give a similar slight indication but before he could even do that for it to make sense for his character he'd have to spew some gobbledygook about how he's suddenly getting his memories back of this person that he was made to forget. It's just awkward. Also at this point he will presumably have had another companion, so Clara won't be the only one to consider and you wouldn't want to have her taking up all the focus from whoever the other one is. To top it all off that would be an incredibly anticlimactic way of reversing this memory loss he will have had all the time since she left.

Just finished part 1 of Greatest Show in the Galaxy.

I kinda feel like it /deserved/ to get canceled.

Greatest Show is actually quite good.

What didn't you like about it?

Welcome to your NIGHTMARES.

That's one of the better 7 stories. But yeah, I can't really argue against the idea that the show deserved to be cancelled at that point

But 25/26 are good.
>>
>>63594622

But it didn't. Seasons 25 and 26 had some of the best stories in the entire Classic series.

Sadly the damage had been done by the Sixth Doctor's era and Season 24.

I enjoyed the episode inside the confession dial.
I don't get why the Doctor punched the diamond wall instead of kicking it though. Could have saved a few billion years.

It's unfair for me to criticize it yet, only being on part 2 right now.

It just feels more naff than usual? I dunno.

I meant around that era in general, not specifically those seasons.

Two completely different charts - one is referring to the amount of people watching, the other refers to what people on imdb think.
