ITT: the book was better

Post shit movies that had the potential to be as good as the book, but failed miserably.

>ITT: the book was better

All the time. Exceptions would be Stephen King adaptations but that's only because King is maxipleb.
>>
Has there ever been a movie that's been better than the book?
>>

The book was pretty bad too, actually.

This, so much. I know "it cut out the best parts" is a trite excuse, but they really butchered this adaptation. I don't even care about the gore they cut out, but so many other scenes didn't make it in
>The U2 concert where Bateman and his friends are in the front row, could not be any less interested in being there, but Bateman then hallucinates and thinks Bono is talking to him.

Michael Crichton books were ALWAYS better than the movies.
I've read JP1, 2, Andromeda Strain, Airframe, Timeline, and Sphere.

Still waiting to see if they ever make an Airframe movie

Most of Crichton's adaptations fall short of the books, even the good ones desu.

I read Jurassic Park after the movie and was salty for awhile about it. Mostly little stuff like swapping the roles of the two kids, making the mostly useless girl the tech savvy one, and not getting to see Hmond get eaten alive by little dinosaurs like the ones we saw in The Lost World.

Jaws, easily. The Exorcist too.

JP2 movie was what the first one should've been tone-wise. Book 1 was pretty sinister and violent, and if based Jimmy Cameron directed it, it would've been more like that.

William F. Nolan did the screenplay, so I had hopes; but they just really fucked up.
>>
>>63047429
The movie is a good adaptation, it condenses a long sprawling book into a feature length film and still mostly nails the tone. The movie's crimes are maybe not being dark enough and being pretty explicit about whether or not it was all in Patrick's head. But that doesn't negate the fact that the vast majority of the movie does right by the source material.

You shut your mouth PKD is a great writer. Blade Runner is a quasi-adaptation, it takes his themes and riffs on them. There's some more interesting stuff in the book but his stuff is all about world building and Scott got it way right.

I Robot is an extremely boring collection of short stories with the most bitchy female "hero" in the story of literature. Boring, boring, boring. Pretty good "action" adaptation, though they shouldn't had stopped there and a miniseries based on the great parts of the book would have been great.

The Road.

Throughout the book the Man keeps telling the Boy they are carrying the fire. At the end when the Man is dying he tells the Boy he has to keep carrying the fire. The Boy says that he cannot see it, he doesn't understand. The Man reveals that the fire is inside him. It is a beautiful scene that ties the entire story together.

They just shoehorn the conversation in the middle of the movie with no other reference to carrying the fire.

Such a waste of an amazing story of the love between a father and son.

>>63047429

I wanted to throw shit at the screen as the final credits rolled. because of all the religious aspects they left out were what made the book really scary, and I knew that Michael Mann was a much better director than this. he was smart enough to pay attention to detail about the SS unit and the regular Wehrmacht troops, and the actors tried their hardest, and it just lay there, like a nice shiny, broken toy. Dammit!
>>
>>63049850
this was originally a totally unrelated movie about will smith fighting robots and they shoehorned some asimov shit in at the last minute. it's 0% based on the book.
>>
>>63047276
I remember reading that book, and the characters putting on throat devices to make their voices sound normal in the heavy helium environment. I thought then that he was writing for a movie.

Also, the movie would have been better with an entirely different cast.
