When is Neil Cross writing another episode? I rewatched Rings of Akhaten and Hide today, and realized that I had forgotten how they're full of exactly the kind of weird stuff that I would like to see more of in Doctor Who.
Akhaten wasn't great, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, considering that it was a rush job written because another script had fallen through at the last moment.

Sleep No More's only problem, IMO, is that the monsters were dumb. There are so many things you can do with the idea of removing sleep backfiring that don't involve turning eye crusties into sentient life.
Some ideas off the top of my head:

The tone of New Who is so wrong. Basically, Doctor Who was always a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi romp with sporadic moral explorations, that was successful because of the endearing character of the Doctor and the bizarre Douglas Adamsian universe he called his playground.
Now? Where the hell is the charisma or charm? It's like some lame CBBC show. Urgh. Forcing unsubtle left wing values. Yuk.And it's getting worse...
It looks worse than Classic Who, too. There used to be genuine craftsmanship and interesting designs. Now it' awful. Honestly, you could make a 10 hour Mr Plinkett style video series about how much New Who has blown it. I hate it.

The problem I had with it is that the ability to perfectly mimic a normal human being wasn't even hinted at through the episode. Also no one fired their gun throughout the episode. And the writing was bad.

It wasn't going this well. First two-parter was really a plot for one episode padded with 30 minutes of bollocks to fit a cliffhanger to 45 minute mark. Second two-parter was a good setup which ultimately ended in a series of shitty fakeouts justified by time paradox. Maisiefest was composed of not particularly impressive comedy and pretty boring and divorced from actual human experience character study with shitty monster tacked on.
Zygons were pretty good, although childish morality and shallow characters is not good when you plan to resolve your plot with a debate.
