Okay, so here is what happens in the finale. Do not read that because I'm spoiling the entire plot.The episode starts with the Doctor finding Gallifrey. He finds out Missy is now the President and Daleks/Time Lords hybrids are the new Lords of Time - this is the Heaven Sent cliffhanger. Short story is Ashildr is a Time Lord/Dalek hybrid, she is the Minister of War on Gallifrey and she's ready to make war against the entire universe. The Doctor finds Clara on Gallifrey, except she's been made part Time Lord too just to see if Humans could be good hosts. They end up saving Ashildr from Davros and Missy in the past and send her through the time crack, to Gallifrey and the Time Lords before they start creating hybrids so they realise there is no use to live as Time Lords/Daleks hybrids. Basically, she is an anomaly in the Time Lords/Daleks hybrids that Missy and Davros created but she escaped, so if they can send her to the Time Lords before Missy sends the hybrid Ashildr, she can save everything. Hybrids are being created so they can get out of the crack, acting as beacons in the universe so the Time Lords can be pulled out of the pocket back into the universe. Except it's a one way trip, and there's no going back. Clara has to go with her because only Time Lords on Gallifrey have the ability to save her, as she's now a Human/Time Lord hybrid and the Doctor can't save her otherwise she'll die. The Doctor can't come with them because he still needs to protect the universe and he thinks he'll find her again when he finds Gallifrey. They go and Clara mouths "I love you" before stepping in the crack, which closes just after. Time is rewritten. The TARDIS materialises at a restaurant because she knows the Doctor is at grief, and the Doctor meets a Clara splinter. The episode ends as the camera moves away from the exterior of the restaurant as the Doctor goes on about his Clara. The credits cut like last year and River pops in, "Hello Sweetie". End.
I fucking loved season 6, episodes 1 & 2 we're banging. Season 7 was decent but started to get a bit whack. Season 8 was full on nope and I dropped that shit instantly

I started with 1 then stopped watching pretty much entirely after 4 and the specials. Binge watched all of Matt Smith's recently and didn't really like it overall but some episodes stuck out. 5 was my favourite season his. I liked 8 quite a bit and enjoy Capaldi a lot. I also want to say that I'm glad the beginning monologue was used in this episode because I loved how it was used in Listen but was disappointed when it didn't show up again.
Good episode, improved on an already solid first part.
The story overall might be a 7/10 or even an 8.
However, one small thing puzzles me.
What was the reason for the explaination of the bootstrap paradox? It's a plot device that the show has been using for a long time (arguably since Series 1, for sure since Series 3), and it's not like this episode explores it in any new significant ways. Why does it need explaining now?
I mean, don't get me wrong, a Capaldi monologue is always a good thing. But this is a concept that anybody who has been following Doctor Who for a decent amount of time understands perfectly, and the way the future influences the past is already spelled out for new viewers in the episode. What was the point?
