More evidence points towards a permanent fusion would ruin the organization and caste of Homeworld. You have to remember that Ruby and Sapphire were probably one of the first different types of gems to fuse with one another. So no, they wouldn't hate it because they'd be "jobless," I can think of thousands of things a permanent fusion would be able to help Homeworld with in combat. It's more about tradition than anything else.

Well, calling it perma-fusion isn't really accurate. Yes, it's the term the show uses but it'd be more accurate to call it an indefinite fusion. We've seen Garnet de-fuse multiple times on the show,even if it wasn't for very long.
That being said, the benefit to being an indefinite fusion is simply one of synchronicity and time. All the benefits of a regular fusion, just on a longer timescale. It's the same benefit of having multiple people on the same team, just with tighter integration.
