Looking back, if the characters had been elementals instead of gems this story would be a lot more structured
Fusions would be molecules, columns would replace the standard gem types (excepting metals, lanthanides and actinides), and the diamonds could be replaced with noble gasses, etc
Steven would be Carbon since he's the organic one, Garnet would be Salt, a fusion of Sodium and Chloride, and pearl would be Neutronium, the only element not on the periodic table
