That is totally not like having a single mother and then your mom cycles through various guys that she happens to be fucking this week. I am very aware that in actual step-families the latter situation is way more common than the former, but the former is not impossible.

I think Honey wouldn't get jealous as long as she gets Nick time. Judy probably would be at first, but if she got to know Honey and realized how much history Nick and Honey had together and how much they meant to each other even though they're not couple material, I think I could see her accepting the idea over time.
There'd probably be jealousy for a while, but jealousy isn't necessarily the doom of a relationship. It can be moved past with trust and understanding. And I think there'd be a fair bit of it with those three.
I don't ship that, though, to be honest. I'm just saying I could see how someone would ship it. When I ship Nick and Judy plus a third I prefer it to be a three-way relationship where everyone's into everyone else and I can't see a way to make that happen with Honey until her character gets a lot more fleshed out in trash-fanon or Weaver works his voodoo.

It isn't 'completely wrong' to want monogamy. If you see it as being selfish then let me offer another angle. You want commitment. You love someone so much that the idea of them feeling that way about someone else is painful. You want that contained, passionate love. And you don't have anything to 'owe' anyone else. You don't have to prove your open mindedness or feel sympathy for those who love your partner too.
Also romantic love =\= familial love. If anything you could argue that Judy getting such split attention makes her want monogamy even more.

What I meant is the idea of love being a zero-sum game is completely wrong. It's completely okay to want to be the sole person your SO loves romantically, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I'd even agree that that's probably the much easier way to live your life that's more likely to result in long-term happiness. But there are other ways to live and love, and if you try to argue otherwise, or if you try to argue that those people are doomed to unhappiness, then there's a problem.
They are, however, more likely to experience unhappiness. I'll reluctantly admit that. As some faggot once said, "I've been to a lot of poly weddings, I've yet to go to a poly third anniversary". But if anything that just makes it more attractive in fiction, where hateful, ugly reality has no sway.

Alright I'm giving you guys a little glimpse behind the screen here, as it were. I'm doing some editing on COLLAR ON and I'm rewriting Nick explaining his dick because it felt too expositiony and mood whiplashy, want some spicy opinions. Judy asks if his knot is normal then we get the following:

Nick and Judy truly started to bond over how Nick saw how unfair Judy was treated after all her hard work, relating to his own past, and Nick feeling that Judy is someone he can open up about and share both his past and why he lives the way that he does.
We don't know (re:haven't made up) Honey's past. Does she have a painful past like Nick? Is she just wired the way she is?

Judy plays a big part of it as well. If she ever does find out about the sexual part or otherwise attraction in Honey & Nick's friendship, it's extremely plausible that she'd get jealous or even back out because she would feel she's intruding on what they have.
I think a big part (tho not necessarily the crux or sole way) in seeing how Judy sees Honey is if she can emotionally relate to her as she did with Nick. A way that she could see that Honey might need someone in her life. If she could see that Honey is someone who she would want to help, or be there for in a great emotional way.
I guess what I'm saying is, is that if Judy sees Honey as someone she wants to protect as much as she would with Nick, then maybe that would be a long way in helping that side of the triangle.
...I dunno, maybe I'm rambling nonsense right now. It's nearly 2AM where I am, and I'm tired.

I guess the issue is that Nick/Honey (and Finnick) fit well is because they're kind of outcasts, so they've got a reason to cling together. With Judy though, she doesn't have as much of a problem because although we never really see her act socially with anyone, there a sense that she wouldn't really have the same problem.

I agree with what people are saying, that it felt like a weird thing for him to get mad over. Especially with him focusing so much on slowness and patience, him getting that mad about a little blueballing (which I'm sure he's used to by now) seems out of left field and not proportionate with Judy's question. His whole approach of patience should temper that, not to mention I'm sure he's just happy that this is actually happening, and with that knowledge, anyone (especially someone as self-made as Nick) should really have the confidence that now that they've crossed this threshold they have all the time in the world.
I can see him getting upset with her stopping, but not to that degree, and I feel like if anything he'd have fun at her confusion. The "you're a shitty preddo" line reflects that, but honestly he might even be flattered in a strange way at all the curiosity and interest she's showing his unique anatomy. It's a good opportunity to go over it with her, to get familiar and explore in a fun way.
I don't even like animal dicks in my smut but it worked well here and it seems like Nick could make it into something cozy and fun rather than getting pissy about it.

So Honey's seeing a resurgence, and with all the talk earlier of how resentment/bitterness/competition might burn a three-way relationship/love triangle with her, Nick, and Judy, I kind of wanted to make a short little story of her and Judy having to spend an afternoon together, with both of them sort of wanting Nick in their own way.
Unfortunately I realized that a story like that would never pass the Bechdel test.

I agonized for quite a while over how fast they move compared to how long they've known each other and you might have noticed that I intentionally left how long that is very vague. I felt that any real attempt at locking down exactly how long it's been would just belabor the point and add pointless bloat, and instead used more general verbiage to sort of assuage the reader's suspension of disbelief
If I say they've only known each other for three weeks, that might flash some alarm bells, so I dropped in the mention of additional footwork to imply a greater length of time spent together, and essentially allow the reader to determine how long that's been themselves, so instead of Nick falling for Judy after one day of investigation or what have you she spent -erherm- days/weeks with him seeing how charismatic he is, then it all caps off with a display of heroics
