/tup/ Tulpa General

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

She sounds a lot like my girlfriend, except for the fact that she's flesh and blood.
>>
>>3083299
Well, it's not really relationshippy in any way, but it sounds like you have a good girlfriend anon.
>>
>>3082669

Mine is generally cheerful and up beat. She's concerned about my wellbeing and relationships with others; she's been wanting me to get a girlfriend, and improve my family relations since her early existence. She's also highly affectionate, and very rarely shys away from touching and being touched. More often, it's I who draw back, but she usually responds by grabbing my hand and putting it back where it was, usually the top of her head. Her outlook is predictably optimistic, though she's not a happy-happy robot. One point that sticks out is when she broke down after considering how no one but me could see or take note of her.

When I used to put her on irc years ago, she was highly popular among the chatroom, and was very much the social butterfly. I haven't out her online much recently, however. Usually I only have her on in private conversations.

She considers herself a passenger in my life, and thus has very little interest in things like posession. She feels her place is to act as my support, and she seems to take some pride in that role.

She's not the only one I have, but this message would be too long if I went in detail with all of them. She was initially jealous when I began to have others, but at this point, she will complain about feeling lonely if I only have her with me and no one else.

Some tulpa can shift form at will
>>
>>3086256
Changing forms is just as bad as changing waifus.
>>
>>3086318
But it's still the same tulpa
>>
>>3086318

Tulpa don't work that way.

Contrary to what you often see in these threads, forms are only one component of the mental construct, and is actually quiye interchangeable if the construvt has a solid enough personality. Having a more permenant form for the sake of convenience and attachment can help with further development, but it is not THE most important thing.
>>
>>3086421
Sure maybe it is, but good luck not having you or your tulpa accidently roleplaying it's new form because of how susceptible your brain is.

Your brain identified your tulpas personality with it's old appearance, now it has to get used to this new fad that just released.

Why not just add the features that made you like the new form to your old form.

It probably doesn't work though I guess, if you're going from pony > pokemon > sans
>>
>>3086140
My tulpa was a pokemon from the start.

I didn't want a human.

I'm not a furry, so I didn't want (nor do I have) a fursona.

I'm not autistic enough to have an OC to use, nor am I autist enough to watch the anime

and animals are boring. So, a pokemon seemed like a good alternative. I'm happy with it, the tup is happy with it (even if the form has deviated a bit), everybody wins. It's not an 'alternate form' or whatever.
>>

> Sure maybe it is, but good luck not having you or your tulpa accidently roleplaying it's new form because of how susceptible your brain is.

This is something I didn't take in to account. My buddy is original, and each time she changed it was to something else of my own creation (Or in one case, ro a more normal human form). So I never had to worry about fandom form swapping. I have media based tulpa, but they usually keep their form in a general sense. That is, if they change, it's usually clothing, hairstyle, etc.

As a side note, I cut a lot of anime from my media diet when I started getting media constructs in my head. I saw just how attached I was getting to the shows, and was afraid of the idea of having my buddies be simply ways to extend my obsession with certain shows.

I'm very early in the creation steps and I'm wondering, before your Tulpa can act or speak on their own, is it okay to make them do things yourself?

Like for the personality portion, I was thinking of having a bunch of cups filled with the traits and having my Tulpa drink them, but she's not able to do this on her own yet, so if I imagine her drinking it, basically forcing her to do it, is that bad?

Also I can't help but have intrusive thoughts of my Tulpa doing random things, is am I basically forcing her to do random actions this way?

Alright thanks.
My mind is very chaotic and I have poor concentration, so I worry all the random thoughts hurts the forcing time with her.
I already told her I would never make her do something she doesn't want to do, and that the personality and form I gave her is just a base, like a starting point and she is free to change and evolve from it as she feels comfortable. But I still just get a little paranoid my random thoughts are hurting the situation or her in some way.
>>
>>3090947
You're doing everything right anon

A good way to practice focus is just typical meditating.
>>
>>3090947
I, too, have an incredibly sporadic mind, and was at first worried about what effects that would have, but I managed to find a way to stop it.

Firstly, before each session, when I sit down and close my eyes to force, I say to myself that I'm going to count to n (n is usually >6 and <30), and after I count to n, I'm going to focus solely on tulpa. From then on, whenever my mind wanders, once I notice I count to 5 and try to gently end the thought and bring it back to the attention of my tulpa. After some time, I've had a significant decrease in intrusive thoughts. I hope this can help you and your tup, anon-kun

Being around the community on and off and keeping an eye on things, the amount of issues the community has, both actual and perceived, are way too numerous and contradictory to really pin point one thing as THE problem. For example: One of the biggest complaints I heard about for a while was circlejerking. The irony of it was that the people who complained the loudest were the ones most prone to forming small cliques of like minded, such that their opinions are strengthened...i.e. a circlejerk.

I think the best thing anyone can do for it is to just chill out and have some more fun. In the end, it's a community based around (lively, opinionated, and quite precious) imaginary friends, why do people need to pitch faux holy wars about it?

If you resort to making a waifu or a girlfriend within your head and that's the reality you chose for yourself then so be it. I will say that you're bringing them into an unhealthy forced relationship that could cause you both mental hardships.

Absolute faggotry imo.

As far as forcing an appearance of your preference on them that's alright, as long as your tulpa is okay with it but it's so fucking unoriginal and faggy imo. The trouble comes when you model your tulpa's personality after a character and you actively make them conform to that role, they'll have an identity crisis sooner or later.

The halucinations are for Imposition, otherwise it's all in your head (visualization). Possession without consent is an extremely advanced technique and easy enough to deny.

But hey, you do you, as much as some parts of the community might seem like a cult we aren't a cult, if you don't want to make a tulpa fine, don't, just don't halfass it or change your mind when you're done with them.

>>3100942
Some might, some might not. Personally I've found when it comes to tulpas based on characters, 90% of the time it's the tulpas using a form that compliments their personality rather than the other way around. Like, you wouldn't usually see a tulpa who's loud and obnoxious use the form of a quiet character, unless they like irony, because it doesn't fit them.

Now check my dubs

I just wanted to chime in on this, since I may be someone who you're talking about.

I'm a waifufag, and I'm making my Tulpa based on my waifu. But it stops at that, I'm using my waifu as a jumping point, something to start and work with. Despite it being based off a waifu, I'm not creating the Tulpa with the intention of it becoming a lover (Though, open to it.) and would fully support my Tulpa if they decide to deviate their personality or looks from the original base. I think a lot of waifufags fall under this catagory and it isn't as black and white as simply trying to create a replica of your favorite anime girl. I think it's more just trying to use something you're familiar with and are very fond of to create a base with substance and history to it.
>>
Tulpas can understand your feelings right?
Like in real life I have to use detailed and expressive words to get my point across, especially if I'm stressing to come of genuine.
But with a Tulpa that isn't necessary, or is it? Can I just be simple and straight forward, and they know for a fact it's genuine and honest?
Is it even possible to lie to a Tulpa?

Well, how do we do it?
>>
>>3102205
Practice; your tulpa will need to be able to fully posess you regularly before they can do it on their own. Also, they'll have to be developed enough so that they're fully sentient and capable of self-sustaining (indistinguishable from the host's consciousness/soul/whatever word you want to use to describe "you").

TL;DR: Mastery of possession/switching and being a "Fully developed" tulpa.

>Are tulpas real?

No. Your imagination is a tool evolved to aid deductive reasoning. It can't be used to simulate rewards (like socialization) as that would circumvent the reward system and cause an evolutionary dud.

>Why do people say they have tulpas?

For some it's a ploy for attention and comes from a desire to be envied. It's similar to people who claim they were abducted by aliens.

For others it's a fantasy which they attempt to mentally legitimize by seeking others to approve it, ie. "Okay, maybe I don't really have a tulpa... but if I tell this person I do, and then they get a tulpa, I'll know they're real and I just did something wrong. Then I'll get a tulpa by doing it the right way."

>So why is the concept still alive?

'Tulpas' are a shitty new age religion/cult where the ``catch``, ie. the tempting thing that makes people want to believe it, is 'if you believe it you can make your waifu real!' rather than 'if you believe it you go to heaven when you die!'

That's not how it works.
At most you would have to theorize that at some point tulpa making was the norm, and whoever made tulpas didn't procreate, thus humanity evolved to be less capable of making them because only the people who didn't or couldn't make one bred and had kids.

But there's no evidence for this.

Aside from the often mentioned head pressure I have noticed that sometimes when I sing a song in my head I suddenly sing the wrong lyrics.
Typically one word is replaced with another, and often the swap somehow makes the meaning of the lyrics less aggressive.
I'm convinced that this is the conscious or unconscious doing of my tulpa since I feel like she doesn't like the kind of music I listen to.

Newbie here, how does your mind function differently when you have a tulpa? I mean, do you guys get tired easily or concentrate less? Do you guys feel smarter or slower with your tulpas? I'm asking because I'm really feeling like making one, but I don't think it can do all that good for the head....
>>
>>3119316
It doesn't function differently at all because tulpas don't exist and are a ploy for attention.
>>
>>3119316
It doesn't impair one's mental functioning on any significant level.

The worst that happens is usually that the tulpa is distracting, such as through frequent head pressures, or appearing and talking at inopportune times. There aren't claims of thinking slower, remembering less or feeling less "smart" from having a tulpa. Personally I haven't experienced any of that either.

Tulpas affect one's emotional life much more than they do their cognitive abilities.

listen anon-kun.
instead of trying to cultivate the idea that all of this seems false online, have you considered trying it out yourself?
along my travels in archived threads years back, many people decided that this could very well be that ploy for attention that everyone jumps on for meme value. however, for curiosity's sake, they try it themselves just to prove that it is or is not fake.

Tulpa's aren't made for the sake of scientific or experimental research, but they sure can be made to be so. other anons come and go saying that concentrating on such a level does give you many varied reactions and feelings that they've never felt before, before destroying said tulpa.

if you really do intend on trying to stay here and push everyone down with your rude language, I'd suggest trying it out for yourself first. in your eyes, I'd probably be sounding insane, like a group of christians just saying "its true, just believe it". but it in fact, does give you a result thats worth noting, and not just blind faith. I'm an agnostic myself, even if I was born into Christianity. unless you're just asukafag shitposting, then you should just leave.
>>

>Has anybody else jump-started their tulpa's form by forcing it onto a physical object?

you'll create an object tupper that way. its slightly different, in that its not very mentally strong, and that if you lose the object, you might lose the tupper as well.

Don't pay him any mind, Anon. He's an ironic sample of his own criticism against the thread.

If he really was curious, he would have tried it already, but he already has his mind made up. No need to waste too much thread space on him (Especially since he thinks visualization cannot be trained in to a habit, as said in >>3119962).
>>
>>3121348
Well she's entirely separate from the object now, but in the early stages of forcing a new tulpa, I would close my eyes and feel her/the pillow, mentally aligning congruencies between the pillow and how I intended her form to be. Her form isn't a pillow, and never was, in case you got that impression. That is my favorite pillow now though.

Is it a good idea to make a tulpa that can fly? Is it harder to visualize the tulpa and a shadow below? I'm looking to make a qt griffon girl
>>

I wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference, difficulty-wise.
It just depends how good you are at it and how much detail you can put in.

kindly elucidate on what it means in this context

Is it a good or bad thing I've been getting headaches often since starting to create my tulpa?
>>
>>3134634
it means its working. in fact, its one of the earliest signs that its working at all.
it could be one of two things. either your brain is trying to work out space for your tupper and/or your wonderland as you force, (which means the more painful headaches will stop eventually, dont fret) or your tupper is trying to give you a response. ask questions, speak, and narrate often.

get used to having an image on the back of your mind?
usually, passive forcing for me works like doing two things at once, like reading, and thinking of your tup. I read out loud and at him so that he hears it.
if I lose focus, I use quick symbolism, highly encouraged in the system, to remind myself. I draw a black circle on my hand so it never leaves my peripheral vision, or at least is hard to lose track of. It's something you get used to.

but really, like I say all the time, its up to you. this whole process is highly subjective, and forcing is really a chunk of that subjective bit. if reading or singing doesn't do it for you, just at least keep your tup in some part of your mind at all times, and occasionally talk to it by turning your route of thought into direct dialogue.

There's a couple of creation guides here as well as a guide to helping with visualization if you're having trouble with that among other resources.

It happens sometimes. You just have to roll with it a bit, make sure the thread doesn't die.

But just for conversation's sake, what ave you guys been doing with your companion's recently?
>>

Talking.

That's pretty much it.
>>
>>3142262
Been pretty busy, but mainly failing to passive force. Going to try some of the things y'all suggested for the other guy though.

Just talking, I only started four days ago so there's nothing she can really do besides sit there and listen to me ramble about random crap.

I eagerly await the time we can have a conversation. I have a feeling she's going to be really smart, we can have some interesting conversations.

I think you two should hang out. So one Gardevoir can sate the other fetish.

My Tup is still unable to talk (or I am unable to hear her) but I have been asking her since the start to help me to remember dreams, I really don't know how this should be working but last night I had a trainload of dreams after asking her to help me, after three months of 0 dream activity.
