I don't know if he's entirely wrong. It seems as though they jumped straight into changing things really fast.
On the one hand I get why, making RWBY as good as it could be and really successful is one way of trying to "honor" Monty. But simultaneously, if he had been alive he would have hated all the changes too, and objected to them at every step. For him it was just as much about the process as the end result.

They wouldn't have needed to change things with Monty still around though, they needed to change things because the old system wouldn't work with just Shane knowing it. They needed to finish volume 3 on time so they changed things to make sure that would happen. Shane thought that he could take Monty's place but he wouldn't be able to and he was upset when they didn't let him try to.
